Have the rocker covers off the bike, to set tappets. While it is off is there any way to confirm that it is a roller tappet. When the recall was done on the the 8V's did they always change to a roller or did they just replace with slider sometimes. What is the valve clearance for both.

Yes, the difference is obvious.this is a picture of the shitter Stelvio I'm repairing at the moment. It's had the roller conversion. If you look at the rocker casting you can see that it appears to have two spark plug tubes. This is because it is the same casting used for the Cali 1400 which does have twin plugs.

There have been previous 'Technical Updates' to the tappets and cams that just involved a different form of tappet. But in this case the cambox and rocker casting will only have a single plug tube.

The tappets themselves are also clearly and visibly different but the twin plug tubes in the casting will be the dead giveaway if it's been rollerised.

Thanks Pete.

Mine has not got the roller tappets despite what the previous owner said. I have confirmed however that the cam and tappets were replaced under warranty. Is this a concern. The bike purrs at the moment and are the clearances still 0.1 and 0.15.

Also let me know about the Aprillia key blank.

Cheers Mark

Is it a concern? Well, only if they go tits.

As long as you have a full service history from an authorised Guzzi dealer you'll be fine as if the flats go tits you'll get a conversion kit. You will have to pay to have it installed though.

PM me an address and I'll flip you the key. Give a $20 donation to a non religious charity like Mediciens sans frontier for it.

Pete

PS. Early models had their chilled cast iron tappets replaced with forged steel ones with a DLC coating on them, this is what will of been done to your bike.

Cheers for that.
I take it the forged ones are better. What is the valve clearance? I will send through the address now.

Cheers

Bugger you Pete!!  I was happy sitting in front of the fire (its -3 outside) and i saw your pictures and had to venture out to the garage in my slippers to check and make sure it had had the roller conversion....wooohooo two plug holes

But, there is a bit of milky oil around, running too cold? I have been out earlier this year at 7 degrees but went 60 odd miles, may have to get an oil temp guage

@ sidrat: Ride it harder! Twisted Evil Or use a cover over the oil cooler to get it nice and hot.

@ MVH053: Clearances are 0.1 & 0.15. Some Roper Tech for your edification: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

As a side note, my 2014 SE has just one spark plug hole as standard... It definitely does have roller tappets though as you can turn them at TDC

Bikes that leave the factory with rollers all seem to have the single tube cambox but the conversion kits all use the Cali 14 twin tube casting, or at least all the ones I've seen do. I have no idea why?

Oh, and just as an addendum to that my 'C' kit arrived on Friday but I haven't opened it yet. If it has a single tube cambox I'll let people know.
