PostSubject: Piaggio strikes again, in my garage   Wed Jan 28, 2015 9:45 pm

Well I took the GRiSO in for its 6000 mile service since the warranty is up next week. Went to pick it up today and she runs like a champ and handles especially nice with the forks dropped a line, what a difference! My office is about 4 miles from my house and I usually come home for lunch and as much as I love riding my GRiSO and Tuono I don't think it's in their best interest to keep making short trips.

So...I had my eye on one of those neat looking Aprilia SR 50 scooters with the Biaggi graphics but the test ride just didn't do it for me. Rode a few more scooters before finally trying the Piaggio Fly 150 and I liked it a bunch. Lots of well thought out features, nicely put together, handles well and has enough pep to move me around. Anyhow I pick it up tomorrow. Never thought I'd be excited about a scooter but I think this is going to be fun.

Laker.......Your Avatar is making me hungry!!

Anyway, I say good on you. I have always liked the look of a Vespa, but have never owned one and can't imagine when that day would be, if ever. But I wouldn't give a flying f@#k if someone thought I was a tosser for owning one.

Cheers Taz

Never understood the whole 'Bike vs. Scooter' thing? Scooters are brilliant! If I lived in an urban environment my primary transport would almost certainly be a 125-250cc scoot. As it is whenever I go to Sydney, (A place I detest!) I'll almost always take the Mana in preference to the GRiSO. Auto/CVT makes riding so much more pleasant than constantly clutching and swapping gears, especially on a pig like an early 8V with its 'Bullworker' clutch!

I always have trouble when taking off from traffic lights on my Sport - especially if there is a scooter in the same row. If there is a race between lights, the scooter always wins. let's face it, different strokes for different situations. Our Guzzis are at home on the open road, not in a point and shoot match between traffic lights - here scooters make sense.

Always wanted a Gilera 180, not that 4 stroke shit, the 2 stroke version.
Drop on a Molossi 210 kit with pipe and carb and you have a scary scooter capable of 180kph.
Just the thing for a quick commute.

That's style Wayne. I am (just as an aside) looking (though not seriously) for a Yamaha AS1 or AS3 (both 125cc twin 2-strokes). I had one years ago, went like the powers of piss, and you could get a race kit for it to turn it into a GP racer. I did all the mods myself (with the aid of "Tuning 2-strokes - Phil Irving" and raced it at Oran Park for a bit.

Older and fatter now, and it would be only to placate the inner child that is still resident, somewhere. Screaming 2-strokes were/are awesome still

BTW the VJMC is having its national show and rally in Canberra this March. One of their office holders works with Trev at Brakeworks in Queanbeyan and had his immaculately restored KH 125 there yesterday. Lovely! Should of got a pic.

I'll consider a scoot, when they (most of them), sort out the shocking build quality.
Of course we all know that nearly all of them are built in places like China, India, etc. no matter what the badge on the tank say's, and one hopes that the manufacturers keep a check on quality, but a dealer I know says most of them are just plain awful.
Although not a scooter, this new (ish) Honda MSX125 is a nightmare apparently.
They've had to rebuild 5 engines so far.
Scooters are the bic razors of bikes.
Buy them, run them for as long as you can before they fall apart, then throw them away.
I like the idea, but my 20 year old BMW has being performing it's city and commuting duties flawlessly for years now, without one single issue.
It always scrubs up nice, and is worth as much as what I originally paid for it, which is about a third the price of a flashy new scoot.

DM, the 6th line may be best for a guy who'd cafe a pogo stick with clip-ons but I'll take it one line at a time Laughing So far so good, though I'm eager to get it out for a proper ride. The weather's supposed to take a turn for the worse tomorrow. I'll get a sweep row in the morning before the rain starts.

Wednesday afternoon I reach out to a forum friend for some counsel before making my hasty purchase.  As you can see he was no help.

By Thursday I've spilled the beans to the missus that I bought something kind of expensive on a whim and went ahead and picked it up.

She's a bit concerned about having space in the garage.
