We got a 55 degree  day and I can't ride. I went out to start my bike turned the key (not cranking) and all I get is a clicking noise. The display says ecu .So I checked the battery and it has 13.6v . I don't know what to do .

Have you washed it recently or has it got wet somehow?

First thing to try is pull both main fuses for 10 seconds and reinstall to let the ECU 'cold boot'.
If that fails, you might try pulling the fuses again and reseat the ECU connectors.

Check the 15amp fuse for the starter relay as well.

Well, pull the fuses and reset the ECU anyway. A starter issue shouldn't cause an ECU error, but do as Wayne suggests anyway.

If it's been sitting for two months the battery will of been drained by the imobiliser. Thee is also a good chance the battery will be fucked but try puting it on a good trickle charge foe a day or so and you'll probably revive it to the point where it'll start the bike.

Pete

PS. If it doesnt? Buy a new battery and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE BOX when puting it into service! None of this 'Put the acid in and ride' crap! I did a lot of that as a teenager and look at me!

What you need is something like this Optimate 2;

And if you are going to leave it idle for long periods, also get this for the fuel system;

Me too
Borrowed  a friends 06 4 valve model for a trip to Phillip Island this weekend (mines off the road)
Balanced the Throttle bodies and then went to connect Guzzidiag to check the TPS setting but it won't start.
Have pulled all the fuses but can't get any action.
Dash fault code 01 indicates a key issue if I am correct no other fault codes are present although the other day there was a code for the oil pressure sensor but since being cleared it has not reappeared even though the engine has been run a dozen times since.
Currently the red triangle on the dash is illuminating and the info shown in the photos comes up on the dash when the ignition is turned on.
The remember to insert your user code message has been coming up for a few days but cleared on the dash after about 5 seconds when the bike could be started.
The ECU warning only occurred tonight.
Battery is charged and I have even tried one from my bike and also used jumper leads from my car so that should not be an issue.
Any thoughts? Issue with key even though it has been working ok.

Mark. Don't turn it off and on again until you have pulled the ECU. (easy) and connected an extra earth to the engine or frame. This is a classic sign of poor ECU earthing.

Armymisfit,

It might even be a simple as cleaning the battery terminal leads, especially if they have visible corrosion build up. The #! cause of "startus interruptus". Have at them with a little cup of baking soda in water and an old toothbrush.

It the terminals are already clean, check the fuses as already suggested. If the fuses are good, check the main ground/earth connection behind the starter motor and make sure the connection is clean and tight. If it still won't start, then get a new battery and follow Roper's advice.

Good luck.

One issue I have personally experienced was that the start relay was not getting full power. This was on my Stelvio. After searching the wobbly web, I wired the power for the start relay directly to the battery via a fuse. After that, no more start problems.
On my Bellagio, I am using a 5 yr old Motobatt battery that was almost dead before I re-juvenated it with a battery de-sulphator. Do this out of the bike, because the de-sulfator introduces spikes to break up the sulfation. I had borrowed the charger to do that & it took a few days, but the battery came back to possibly 90%. This battery now starts the Bella easily. You can also get a desulfator that goes directly across the battery, & you use a simple 2A or so charger to gradually charge the battery. (preferably not too smart a battery charger for this function).

If you look on the web, there are good technical articles on Lead Acid Battery sulfation. All lead acid batteries gradually sulfate, so a desulfator does help the battery life. NEVER use a battery charger with a built-in desulfator on a Lithium battery: it will kill them. (Lithium batteries need to stop charging once the battery reaches its full charge voltage. That voltage varies depending on the chemistry, but Lithium bike batteries are OK to 14.4v usually) fyi, the reason not to use Lithium batteries on old bikes is the alternators do not charge at idle, or low revs. This means if riding in the city for instance, stopping frequently with lights on can drain the battery completely, killing the battery. Most Lithium batteries are about 50% of the capacity of a Lead acid, so there is less energy in the tank so to speak. Modern bikes with high output alternators should be OK with Lithium batteries, but check recommendations.

regards, Doug

Well, while "armymisfit" seems a somewhat redundant combo Razz , inquiring minds are, well, inquiring about how the numerous responses assisted (or didn't) your call for help.
