A friend on a certain Bavarian bike was stranded by a busted throttle cable. Got me to thinking about mine. Is this a roadside repair I should and can be prepared for?

I can't recall ever hearing of this happening to a CARC bike.

You'd need tools to take the tank off and open the twistgrip. I check mine regularly for fraying, no problems in 85,000km apart from the adjuster boots falling to bits.

When i rode around the world, i taped a throttle and clutch cable to the originals, so that you just had to connect them at either end............never used them

Ha! Funny you mentioned that. My 09 boots were about gone after 36K miles.
I already know that Guzzi doesn't sell those separately so improvisation will ensue when I cross that road again...

I bought a load of aftermarket boots that someone found here a while back but he said they weren't very good. I haven't even opened the packet. I keep forgetting about them. When I et home I'll dig 'em out. If they look even half way useable I'll send you a pair.

Ssssok Pete, appreciate the offer. Too much in shipping for what it is though...
I'll get some from Honda or similar. Smile

Alas it seems you can't get them from there either. Believe me, I tried. If you do find some let us know. As it is slipping a pair of these things in an envelope will cost next to nothing.

Improvisation = electrical tape? Mine are hanging in there pretty well but I treat most of the rubber/organic bits with a liquid UV protectant every blue moon or more. Seems to help.

I'm looking longevity here.
Electrical tape in the sun=gooey mess. I'll still pass.
