Reaction rod

So my 2006 GRiSO has been making a metallic clunking noise recently, at low speeds when rolling off and then back on the throttle and especially when changing down through the lower gears. It is a similar effect to having a cush drive rubber wear out on a chain driven bike and also occurs if I release the clutch lever too quickly when changing. Town riding is a real pain! It may be doing it at higher speeds but its difficult to hear with the wind noise. My pillion also experiences a vibration on the left peg.
I have had no chance to dismantle anything but I have found that if I grip the reaction rod I can induce a clicking noise at the swing arm end by giving it a sharp push and pull action. i'm fairly convinced that this would be magnified under riding load and that this is the cause of my problem. There was a thread on Guzzitech with a similar theme but it the guy never posted a conclusion Rolling Eyes

Anyone think I'm barking up the wrong tree here?

You`re right.

It´s the front bushing of the reaction rod. In the parts list it´s no. 7 on the shaft drive. It´s about 18 Euro and easy to change.

But don't replace it with the original 2006 part, you need the later Stelvio part #, its called the Silent Block.

The whole point of having a reactive drive is to separate the drive from the suspension. The torsional forces of the drive are fed directly to the frame allowing the suspension to work without interference. If you disconnect the rod the reactive bodge will try to spin and may well smash the cases.

Just No. 7, its all you need. Have a mechanic fit it, unless you have a press or are very ingenious or mechanically minded.

Interesting. My wife's GRiSO has made that exact noise since her SE was new. I assumed that it was normal for a GRiSO. I'd never heard it on the Stelvio and just assumed it was particular to the GRiSO. I'll have to check hers out.

Can you press that bushing in with a clamp or does it require a much more aggressive press?

I'd imagine you could do it with a big vice and a suitably sized pipe but a press would be a whole lot easier.

Just as a follow up, I have replaced the original bush with the silent block, and can report a marked improvement in gear change and its sorted the low speed roll off/on issue. Well worth doing in my case.
Probably a good idea to take the arm to a workshop with a press (which is what I did), as the guy said it was a bit of a bugger to do!

It should be fitted as standard on your model as far as I know

They reckoned it would take about a month to get one from Piaggio Mad

Unless the UK importer keeps zero stock I really can't see why it takes so long to get stuff? It's not letting ke the UK is a long way away from Italy?
