I'd be happy to post pictures and commentary on the process as well as the finished result.

A) OK, that puppy is pretty darn cute.

B) I'd like to see your "Cali-Bean" build-out. I've always wondered how sidecars rigs were done (right)

I'd like to check your build progress.

also I think the front half of the original pictured rig looks really good. That butt is too bulbous though. IMHO.
Reminds me of an old midget race car.

So is the Cali a Hydro? If so, good choice.

I'll try and post up a pic or two of Peter's rig.

But even if you don't it looks well made and good engineering.

Yes, but I feel so sorry for that poor GRiSO.  It's like putting a thoroughbred stallion in front of a custom-made cart. It works but it will not make the horse very happy.

That's called harness racing by the way, kind of fun to watch...

I put a single seat Squire on a 1200 shovelhead I used to have, was a pig to set up even with four mounting brackets. My lad went in it when he was two with the missus on the pillion. We went on a European camping trip with it, did 2000 miles and I was no better with it when we got back than when we set off, too high geared aswell, which I never thought about round home, but struggling with wind resistance on faster roads. You could turn it on a sixpence though, as the saying goes, and it was funny doing left handers with the chair wheel in the air. When I took it off I nearly dropped it at the first road junction when I forgot to put my feet down.

It is. It's a 2003 with just 11,000 miles on it and major suspension upgrades. I really scored on this one.

The sidecar is made locally by DMC Sidecars. They've engineered mounts for the California as well as a modified triple tree that they machine in-house from solid billet aluminum which is designed to increase the rake slightly making steering easier with a sidecar. The car itself will also have a brake. Unfortunately, since they're made by hand when ordered, I'll have to wait nine weeks to get it. And I will install it myself to save the installation cost, about $1400. What I'll probably do is invite all my buddies over for beer and pizza and a sidecar assembly party. Here's a picture of the model I've ordered (black and without the rear luggage rack which I can build myself if I decide I need one).

Camber angle and toe-in are the most vital aspects of sidecar set-up. I'm sure there are sidecar specific discussion boards out ther. It would probably be worth joining one and availing yourself of the available knowledge.

Back in the '80's I had a Jawa 350 with a Velorex chair. Wish I still had it, it was a brilliant little unit.

That's a good idea Pete. Jay has already provided me with detailed installation instructions and will be available to trouble-shoot if needed. I'll also take the finished rig to him for a final inspection before I head out on a long trip with it.

Found this Tenni Version....  When you open it - hit the play button for the slide show of different angles.

There is another GRiSO on there too.

I really like the view of the single-sided front fork, but the rest still "just feels wrong".

The chair shock looks like it's adjustable from inside while riding ?

But who is going to adjust it? The pre-load adjuster is still external, and .......... I don't think that chair was built for a passenger.

I'm guessing that's so the rider (of the bike, not the passenger) can adjust the trim to suit whatever load he's carrying. The guy who's building my sidecar offers an electric trim option on some of his rigs.

My take is this GRiSO owner just fucked up a perfectly good Guzzi just to drag stuff / people / pets around with them. Sidecars DON'T create the same experience as a motorcycle ie no leaning.

I've seen a full grown Doberman on a Ducati standing in a custom made pillion box. They passed me (car) on a long right hand bend at ~ 90miles per hour with the fucking dog looking past a little to the right and back a touch of the riders head - perfect shelter point with view ahead. That dawg was a skilled passenger and undoubtedly OWNED that bike

Lotta money and time spent for a reduced experience ...... but if that's what floats yer boat I guess it's just another one of those "victimless" crimes

Actually, I think the bike was used for raising money for the Black Dog (depression) charity via a lap of Australia. The photo itself is off the website for Jackson Leathers, and the owner is proudly sporting his new custom jacket.

The line from the shock is going to the remote hydraulic pre-load adjuster, mounted under the mudguard. The chair does not carry people.
