Onur's GIVI TankLock for the GRiSO Empty
PostSubject: Onur's GIVI TankLock for the GRiSO   Onur's GIVI TankLock for the GRiSO Icon_minitime1Sun Mar 01, 2015 11:33 pm

I decided to start a new thread since several of us have bought one of these from our own Okuraner (Onur).

I myself went on a long loop the other day to five "supposed' GIVI dealers in the greater Seattle area only to find that almost none of them carried any of the GIVI tankbags. When I say almost, I mean to say that one of the big YamaHonKawaZuki dealers in the area had a singular GIVI TankLock bag in stock. The tiny little 3D603, which I think that I would like to have eventually just for day rides, but isn't really what I was looking for.

In the end, I decided upon the GIVI XS306 expandable tankbag. It has pretty much the same footprint of the 15L bags (13" x 9.8" x 9"), but is also expandable up to 25L. I figured that this bag would work just as well on day rides and still offer a bit more storage while touring.

I got it from Revzilla for $166.50 and should have it by the end of the week.

Mate, that looks like the ducks guts for Bella, better than the strap on I have at the moment.
When Oku matey does a ring for the V7, Cali EV, Bellagio range I'll have to invest.

That's a good price for the 306. I understand some owners like to cut out the silver inner-bag as it gets in the way. I would have gone for the 306 but found the tiny bag for $105 with free shipping.
Worked great on a day trip and easy to move for fueling.

I might pickup the 307/6 or just modify the MG big tank bag to work with the givi lock.

Steak, if you wouldn't mind could you post a pic of it sitting on the tank of you GRiSO with a 6-pack or something in it to give an idea of the size? From looking online at these things I can never really tell.
thanks

Can't wait to see a picture installed I have the same problem finding a dealer stocking them in town to see how they look. I just received my ring from Okuraner and big thanks to him for making these and selling them for an affordable price.

I'd be happy to post up some photos.  The bag is supposed to arrive tomorrow.

Here are some pictures of Onur's GIVI mount on the Diavolo Nero.  The craftsmanship is really first rate and it is a perfect match for the flat black livery on the current 1200 SEs.

I had the same problem as did Canyon Carver with respect to fitment.  I also had to increase the bolt hole size by 1/32" in order for the mount to align.  Initially I could only get two of the bolts to line up.  I guess I got iteration 1.0 as well...  Sad   No big deal though, it all worked out in the end. As mentioned earlier, I think Onur has the alignment all dialed in with version 2.0

A bit of a warning for the 3D604. Whilst on my ride today I had my Galaxy Tab3 in the little tablet holder that clips to the top. At speed, the Velcro let go and the tablet fell into my lap. I felt it but didn't see it. I put my hand down betwixt the tank and me, and was surprised to find the Galaxy there. Shocked

My 3d603 arrived today,
It's the smallest version of the bags.
As I've never had a tank bag before I'd thought I'd start off small, actually looks the shot for little day rides to chuck in phone ,wallet,
Glasses that kinda stuff..
I can see me buying another bag now..Thumbs Up

I love my 3D604. I'm thinking about getting the 3D603. I find myself chucking in the wallet, phone, glasses and a water bottle for day rides now. No more shite in the pockets. The smaller unit would be ideal.

PostSubject: Re: Onur's GIVI TankLock for the GRiSO   Onur's GIVI TankLock for the GRiSO Icon_minitime1Tue Apr 07, 2015 4:37 pm

Just installed Onur's tank ring (a cinch!) and put on my new XS307 tank bag to see how it looked / decide if I'd keep it.

I wanted a "Goldilocks" sized bag: not too big and not too small Smile I decided to try the 15 liter bag as it looked about right. I like it - it takes up the max space as I'd wanted so I'm not hugging it or having it up against my stomach. (Funny, now that I look at the pics it looks bigger than it is - I'll try a side pic later)

As you can see from the pics, the controls do not contact the bag when turned to the steering locks (those side pockets are really narrow and can't hold much more than a pack of cards I'd say, so they won't stick out much when full)

The key is pretty accessible - and you can actually reposition the bad on it's base-plate to shift it back / forwards a couple of centimeters. I might try moving it back one to get a wee bit more clearance.

This one has the port in front to run power into the bag - but not to the clear pouch on top should you have a cell phone or tablet. It actually comes with a larger pouch for a map / tablet that can be strapped to the top / removed easily. Obviously power can be run to the back and through the flap into the pouch.

It's not rigid like the other line, but the material is pretty stiff so it's not floppy or anything. Comes with a raincover (in it's own pouch) and a shoulder strap.

Just recieved my tank lock and bag and installed today as well. Had to adjust the connector to the far back position as to not have any clearance issues with the handlebars and also for easier access to the ignition key..

My only issue is the darn safety strap. No matter how I place it, somehow it's going to create a wear point on the handlebars. Contemplating just giving it the chop unless someone has a better solution.

Curious what is the appeal with a tank bag over a bag out back?

I've gotten used to using a tankbag for many years and used an old original Eclipse for a long time then moved on to Wolfman bags.

I changed to a tailbag and rack when I found the short tank and key position unsuitable on my new KTM Duke. I find I have a problem with dismounting and dragging my foot into the tailbag. Being short in the inseam doesn't help. So that's one reason I prefer the tankbag.

The other is I've had times when I forgot earplugs or glasses in my haste to leave and found it easier to stay mounted, fish the missing item out of my bag in front and correct my absent mindedness.

So if the bike will accommodate the bag in front that's my preference.

The KTM is a Duke 690, a 2013, 4th gen I think, and much closer to my comfort level than the Super Duke, a monster I'd probably never be able to enjoy as my skill level would be woefully short. The big single otoh is a hoot to ride and I've enjoyed it the two years I've owned it.

Thing that bothers me with tank bags, is that grit and crap collect beneath the bag and start to sandpaper their way into the tank, ringpiece or whatever, especially if you ride in the wet.

I mounted my Givi safety Strap under the front head tube on the frame, doesn't interfere and should not create any wear spot. I bought the XS307 and it seems like the right size or just big enough for me to tolerate.

That is the beauty of the GIVI tanklock system. The bags sit about a centimeter proud of the tank. Lot's of breathing room in there.

Thumbs Up

I hate that safety strap. I'm going to cut mine off. Right now I coil it up tightly at the front of the bag while I determine if it would ever be necessary. Outside of a major get off, I don't see these bags coming loose from the tank ring. And even if it did, I'd rather have it skipping down the road behind me than flopping around my head tube.
