Mine went "click" yesterday when I attempted to start it, after stopping to fill up following a 90 mile trip. After the usual checking of the terminal connections and fuses, I had a hunch it might be the alternator belt. I removed the 4 accessible bolts from the cover and managed to prise back the cover to check the belt. In the process of doing so, the pulley nut fell out on to the road. Its a 2006 G11 with 26,000 on the clock. Anyone had this happen to them and if so what was the damage? There is a local motorcycle engineers that has a good reputation, or is it something I should take to a Moto Guzzi specialist? All help/advice appreciated...

There should be a washer under the nut. As long as the key hasn't sheared I'd just put them back on and tighten the nut. Jam a screwdriver into the starter ring gear through the timing hole to hold the crank.

I didn't have the voltage on display on the dash, but subsequent toggling revealed 11.7v

Thanks Pete, is it a tank off job to access the upper bolt on the cover? Would it be a good idea for a spot of locktite on the thread?
