Alternator belt replacement Empty
PostSubject: Alternator belt replacement   Alternator belt replacement Icon_minitime1Thu Sep 10, 2015 12:07 am

Anyone know whether it is necessary to remove the tank to replace the alternator belt? Mine has broken due to the pulley coming off. Ideally I would take it up to my favoured Guzzi workshop where I get the bike serviced but its a couple of hours away and its really difficult trying to find the time to get it there currently, not to mention sourcing a trailer/van. There is a local workshop with a good reputation whom I tempted to take it to but if its a tank off job I'd rather bite the bullet and take it to the Guzzi dealer where I know it'll get done properly....
Thanks in advance

Yes, it's a tank off job. While you might conceivably be able to do it with the tank in place it would be a right royal pain in the arse.

To get the cover off you need to remove a few screws but there is also a mounting *Thingy* that the breather BOS is bolted to. You have to remove the ECU and then the *Thingy* before you can get the cover off. Then you loosen the alternator mounting bolts and release the tensioner bolt to allow the alt to drop down far enough to get the new belt on.

It's not difficult, just fiddly.

Thanks Pete, thought that might be the case. Typically I'd just brimmed the tank....... Rolling Eyes
