So, I am thoroughly enjoying my 2013 roller GRiSO and it is running just great. I have about 5,500 miles on it so far.
I have learned (with a lot of help from this board) how to set the valves, change the oil, balance the throttle bodies, change the map and set the TPS and CO. All things that make the bike really mine.

Now the 6,000 mile service looms ahead. The question I toss and turn about is... Do I use my skills and do most of the service myself (aside from forks) or take the bike in to my dealer (Pro Italia) who did a competent job on the 600 mile service.

I would like to save money ($125 per Hour!) and do most of it myself but I don't want to screw up my warrentee if I have a problem.

What would you do? Question

Get a rubber stamp and print your own invoice.

Actually not a bad idea! I could make up an invoice and bill myself, then set the money aside for GRiSO stuff.

I am not an authorized service though, that might not hold up..

Don't the warranty laws up there say you can do your own maintenance?

I think this is the case. As long as you keep receipts for parts and some sort of record there is some act, (Magnusson-Moss?) that means that a warranty can't be dishonoured as long as the parts are sourced from the correct suppliers and it can be shown you have the skills and knowledge to do the job yourself.

I will tell them I learnt it from you and Beetle, that should suffice!

some limitations apply

Although the Act covers warranties on repair or replacement parts in consumer products, warranties on services for repairs are not covered.

The federal minimum standards for full warranties are waived if the warrantor can show that the problem associated with a warranted consumer product was caused by damage while in the possession of the consumer, or by unreasonable use, including a failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance.

So, do it right and if you screw it up don't expect the warrantee to fix it.

I do all my own maintenance and I've never had a warranty claim denied by Piaggio (via Moto International.)

As long as your dealer is cool... I'm in the same situation than Steak.
Do your own maintenance and just keep a record for your dealer should you have warranty claims and you're golden.
