Someone jammed my steering lock

So   Someone was messing with the ol' GRiSO.    Possible theft attempt. Whatever.

The problem lies in that they turned the steering so hard it broke the steering lock and now the bar are jammed straight ahead.   The key turns, so  tried unlocking it, but then they only turn left.   Anyone have any experience with this?  I'm kind of afraid this is going to be a big pain in the ass to fix.

Sounds odd. The steering lock works by pushing a locking pin into a hole in the top yoke. If it has been broken or bent I'd expect it to either be jammed in place so it wouldn't move, at least not easily, or swing freely.

Are you sure the bearings haven't broken up and jammed the steering?

Try getting the front wheel off the ground by supporting the bike under the sump and see if getting the weight off it makes it easier to turn. Otherwise it sounds like you're going to have to strip the front end.

Dunno, pretty sure. It was prefectly fine last weekend when took it out and parked it. This morning it had the bars lined up straight, but key inserted in locked position. I can wiggle them a bit and the key turns and then they turn hard to the center but no further right. They're all fouled up. I called the dealership in Austin and they said sounds like the thing sheared off in the frame to them.

But the steering doesnt turn freely at any position, it just can be moved.

A sheared pin sounds most likely.
