Hi from Sydney, Australia Empty
PostSubject: Hi from Sydney, Australia   Hi from Sydney, Australia Icon_minitime1Sat Jan 09, 2016 3:08 pm

Hi to everyone on the forum.

I picked up my 2015 GRiSO just before Christmas on December 19. So far I've done 3 rides for a total of 750 very enjoyable km's.

I've fitted an Arrow pipe which sounds a lot better and much louder but measures the same decibel readings both at idle and at 3,000 RPM as the OEM pipe using a iPhone App I downloaded.

Unfortunately, on my ride to Oberon in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney last Friday the bike refused to start at the last fuel stop on the way home. The dashboard displayed an error message "APMG 0023" and then another message "ECU unplugged" with a graphic of two power leads unplugged. After phoning the dealer I purchased the bike from to discuss what the issue might be, which he had no idea or solution for, on turn the ignition on and off for about the 12th or so time the bike eventually went through its pre start up checks and fired up. The bike is now back with the dealer to investigate the issue. Not happy!

Anyway up until that point the only other grips have been:

1. the seemly high fuel use, averaging 7.5 litres per 100 km and up to 9.5 L/100 km in the relatively light post Christmas/ New Year Sydney traffic at the moment, but I hope this will improve as the motor gets a few km's older, (it will won't it?). Otherwise I'll have a lot more fuel stops than planned heading down to Phillip Island for the World Superbikes next month

2. What I am thinking is the hard OEM suspension settings for my 90 kg weight (or may be it is too soft, not sure) as I really feel ever little road bump and the bike seems to really hate hitting a road imperfection mid corner, or much more so than my last bike, a the Kawasaki Ninja 1000.

3. There is no shock absorber tool in the OEM tool kit that came with my bike which seems very unusual. Is this the same for other GRiSO owners in Oz?

Anyway I am hoping to get the bike back next week with the the electronic issue sorted and the. To do a few more kilometres.

Regards

Glenn

Welcome, Glenn. Sorry to hear of problems with a new bike. Hopefully the dealer will sort some of it. Definitely you'll get advice here to help you out. Give it a couple of hours/days for the experts to chime in.

Welcome!

Fuel consumption will improve as the engine runs in. However, it will take several thousand kilometres! With the stock map, you should be able to get 180 km before the fuel light comes on. After she's run in.

Stock shock is over damped and under sprung. Eventually your kidneys will cry 'enough' and you'll lose some teeth. Just like the rest of us. Those of us that prefer not to look like the hill folk have sprung for better suspension. Pun intended. Very Happy

My dealer thew a suspension adjustment tool in when they raped my wallet (which I happily allowed) to purchase my GRiSO. No, they don't come with one.

Hopefully your ECU woes were just a bad connection. Usually poor grounding can cause drama. Your ECU may be a dud - it's rare but not unknown.

Come on Beetle, flog him a map.
If anything, the stock spring is on the soft side for your weight. You can fiddle with the compression damping but the needle is about as sharp or pointed as my index finger, and I have flared nostrils.

Go see Terry Hay for a complete re-valve and new spring is the cheapest option.
Complete new high end shock gives the best result.

Welcome Glen. These are a Great bike Thumbs Up
You don't need to spend a fortune on suspension, unless you desperately want to.
I've found the Front springs on the 2015 G when wound right out are still stiffer than the 2009 G when wound right in.   ???
I've backed off the valve adjusters all the way on the front, and almost all the way on the rear. Rear top adjuster right out, lower - 4 clicks clockwise from right out. It's by no means perfect but a lot better on a trip, sits in a high speed corner well and doesn't wollow around if you hit a bump
Enjoy your ride. Hope they get it sorted soon cheers
Oh, fuel usage coming home north out of Brisbane yesterday, All highway mostly on the speed limit , low fuel light on at 241 km's and 14.57 Lt's for 278.2 km's, worked out at 5.24 Lt's / 100. Riding a fair bit harder for the last half of the trip still returned better than 6 Lt's/ 100

20,000 km is about the magic number for the mechanicals to normalise and you will notice a better running bike around that distance. However, having said that, get one of Mark's maps installed and you find you are out riding more often with a huge grin on your dial

Yeah, I didn't use the stock map for more than one lap around town.
As Tony says it takes a lot of K's before these engines 'free up' ?   I can't wait for that to happen , it goes so good now Cool. 2000 km's and climbing. cheers

The message on the dash and the ECU unplugged icon are almost certainly down to insufficient voltage from the battery. The most likely cause is going to be either poor battery or main earth connection or a battery not put into service properly. In your case I'm thinking the former as it did start eventually.

The dash has a function where when the voltage drops below a certain point, (10.5V? Not sure.) it will kill the starting process to protect the ECU from voltage spikes if the engine does fire up.

Who did you buy it off? If John at Motociclo it is probably just bad luck. John's PD is usually excellent. If elsewhere? God alone knows what was done to it.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.

Pete, no I didn't buy it from Motociclo although I test rode a GRiSO from that dealership. I might seek you out in the near future around fine tuning the fuel map.
