PostSubject: Motorcycle Exhaust Laws   Thu Jan 21, 2016 2:24 pm

Just sent the following info to a member who Pm'd me.
Relates to QLD state laws but as it is all based around National ADR's, should be relevant Australia wide.

Bob, Assist Police Commissioner used to ride an S1000RR, now a Bonne.
Alex, Senior Super of Traffic is the closed forum admin and rides S1000RR.
Both promoted after last election when VLAD boffins all got the sack.

Levente, young barrister rides a Tuono 1100 factory with loud pipe.

Lev gets pinged for noise. Bob posts up the basic laws. Lev removes his pipe
Alex says major govt crackdown on bike noise, operation bunny starts in Feb.

Computer gumby me (ghezzi) reads ADR's and discovered no Cat-Cons required on motorcycles in Australia.
ADR noise regulations are not a blanket limit of 80db on all bikes. Individual levels per model recorded on compliance plate. Mine is 90db at 3,500rpm.
Levels are set at 50% ESMP engine speed max power.

So I prodded and poked Bob and encouraged Lev to do research. Bob quoted ancient ADR's that not even Lev's office could find on-line.

Result; Lev produced an 11 page draft which he posted on our closed forum.
Alex cancelled operation bunny, Bob submitted the draft to Qld Govt QC.
Mark, another S1000RR mounted constable leaked the draft to the press.

You can read it here;

Of the 200 plus forum members, most are civilian non-BMW riders.

An interesting addition is, that we are allowed an extra 5db over our individually listed compliance plate numbers. Presumably for internal corrosion.
My compliance plate is so poorly etched the 90db level looks more like 99db, plus 5 gives me 104db which my crass and vulgar loud and obnoxious beast recorded at a track day.

The plate on my GRiSO shows 97dB(A). I just measured the Hi-Pipe at a paltry 88dB(A). But I'm Ok with that.

The stock cannon is actually starting to sound ok....maybe I have forgotten just how good my tuono with a very open scorpion sounded, or the scream of the yoshi on the gsxr1000 was oh bugga I miss those noises, after 4 years with a GRiSO I think the force is pulling me back towards a fruity sportsbike...

Wel, you should buy another fruity sport bike to clear the voices in your head. Then you get back in the GRiSO for a reality check.

The voices in my head say "burn them all" I try to ignore that voice, actually just had the MV Agusta dealer in my ear as I put my name down for the demo day free T shirts are a good thing Smile. they have a F3 675 RC arriving in April, nothing recently has brought out the drooling 12 year old in me like that bike.
