Has anyone replaced the headlight unit on their GRiSO? I've been in there once and couldn't believe the flimsy method of retaining the rim to the shell. I'd hate to have to go in on a dark night by the roadside, it could take hours to align the retaining screw with the shell!

I've only heard of one person other than myself who had problems with the stock light and that was more a loom problem from memory.

My issue was that on the very first day I owned my G11 I had a sand truck dump half a ton of shale on the road as I was approaching it at speed from the opposite direction and a chunk the size of my fist shattered the light. Truck had popped the tailgate on its dog and dumped its load, it took out about a dozen windscreens too!

At that time I couldn't find an alternative shell that wasn't too deep to mount but as it was an insurance job and I could get one at trade price anyway I didn't look too hard. The depth of the bucket is the important factor. Too deep and it won't fit in the mount.

Yes, Pete I've looked at a few after market jobs and you are right, the standard unit is pretty shallow. I don't have a problem with the unit, but the method the rim attaches to the bowl lacks accuracy.

The retaining screw is about 25mm from memory, and once this thin screw passes through the rim, you have to locate the thread which is about 10 mm behind the rim, so the rim has to be in the exact position and the screw a true 90 degrees to make a successful union. In daylight it took me a few attempts, but trying to do it in roadside conditions may be challenging. Let's hope the bulb doesn't blow!
