Finally getting around to doing something about the niggling little problems on the the V7C. A start has been made, at least.

It's a lot easier to clean the engine once off the bike - and it comes up well

Getting at a couple of the problem areas

We've Identified the problem with the centre stand, and the problem with the kickstand. The clutch looks like it needs a professionals assessment, and I've to find/borrow/make/ have made the special tools to get to the gearshift return spring. Haven't checked out the throttle bodies yet, it was enough trouble getting them out. Later. So far it's been lots of fun - let us say, an educational experience. Much more awaits, I'm sure.

Mal, I think it is fairly safe to assume, that said V7C is back together and, in fact, accompanying you and Malcolm to regions far and wide. Any updates on what you have done and where you are up to?

I tried to get it done before Broadford, but alas, it was not to be. Once the special tools were made up

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

the gearbox came apart - completely - so the broken gearshift return spring could be replaced - a lot of work for a $5 part. The final clutch parts arrived on the Friday before Broadford & we thought we were on a roll. The best part of 2 days was spent trying to get the throttle bodies & their rubber manifolds on - unsuccessfully. So we gave up and went for a ride.

I left for Broadford Tues afternoon (to arrive early, of course - great run down, great run back & a decent time there), the others the next day. Strange how a few days riding & talking can solve problems - a lot of thinking about the problem happened inside the helmet. Got back last night & it only took about an hour to manipulate the throttle bodies & their rubbers into perfect alignment. I expect the bike to be fully back together tomorrow - connect some last wires, mount the mufflers, battery & tank, some strategic cable ties, bleed the rear brake, oil for the gearbox & it's fire up time. I'll find out then what I've missed. Once that works properly, perhaps some refinements, and a test run before we set off. Looking good.

Back together yesterday evening. Stated up OK. Relief. Took it for a quick run up & down the street. Gear change issues - so parked it up, put away the tools & called it a day. Will investigate further today.

Now I know you; we have met at Road Warriors and caught up at Broadford with Farebrother

Faced with this mysterious problem with the wandering gear selector shaft, I thought the gearbox from the holed Nevada would be a quick alternative - it moved through the gears OK - so we stripped the Nevada down yesterday, cleaned up the gearbox, and it all looked promising until spinning the main shaft produced some uncomfortable noises & feelings - not smooth & tight, but loose & notchy - possibly the bearings are shot. Bugger. A more expert opinion is needed, but it doesn't look good.

Ended up pulling the Breva apart as well, using its gearbox. Made up near gear linkages with proper rod ends as well - works fine - a 240k test ride & nothing fell off. Great to ride it again.

By the way, the insides of the throttle bodies had been black with muck. Cleaning them does wonders for the air/fuel flow - no stumbling at around 4,000rpm any more. And fuel consumption may be down as well - early days, only one fill.

Exactly to both. cheers

Cannot tell you how comforting it is for me to read that someone with your wrenching skills "only took about an hour to manipulate the throttle bodies & their rubbers into perfect alignment." Wink

Impressive, actually inspiring, work.

Thanks.

I don't have wrenching skills, I've got friends. (and being retired, a little more time than most).
