G2 throttle - Street tamer Empty
PostSubject: G2 throttle - Street tamer   G2 throttle - Street tamer Icon_minitime1Tue May 20, 2014 3:59 am

In the slow evolution of my GRiSO modifications the snatchy throttle was always an issue.  I am now on my third map which has been a great help but this weekend I finally pulled the grip off and installed the G2 throttle I purchased last year.  I rode it for ten miles in a 10 MPH parade (rush hour BQE traffic) and it was absolutely terrific.  The combination of the map and the throttle was excellent.

Product Description

G2 Challenge:  Improve control of over-responsive power characteristics of most fuel injected motorcycles.

G2 Solution:  The Throttle Tamer.

The Throttle Tamer incorporates a non-linear ratio between hand throttle rotation and carburetor or throttle body opening.  The “pulley”, or as we call it, “cam” pulls the throttle cable as the rider rotates the grip/tube.  By altering the conventional, circular shaped cam, a vast improvement in control is achieved.

The Throttle Tamer has a cam with a reduced radius initially, which requires a slightly farther rotation to achieve the same carburetor or throttle body opening position as a stock throttle.  This virtually eliminates the jerky “throttle snatch” especially evident in modern fuel injected street bikes.  The radius increases or “ramps up” after ½ throttle to keep overall rotation requires to reach full throttle at or near stock rotation.

G2 Key Points:

Machined from 6061 aluminum in the USA!
Self-lubricating Delrin bushings at each end of tube eliminate aluminum-to-aluminum contact and provide an ultra-smooth feel.
Included cam is removable and can be replaced with alternate cams (sold separately) to fine tune control.
Fits inside the stock throttle housing to stock cables.
Works with all known aftermarket cruise controls.
Slide one of our Domino grips or your grip unto the Throttle Tamer.
Installs in minutes!  http://www.g2ergo.com/store/g2-street-tamer-throttle-tube

Funny. I was riding my bike today, both in traffic and on the open road and pondering whether there was a bigger barrel available for a quicker action! Very Happy

I've never had any of these throttle issues that people complain of. Even with the 68S map I never had issues in traffic. With what I'm running now from Mark I can roll on from 1,500 in third and while it grumbles from the transmission it'll just pull right away with no hiccups or anything. Its not something I'd recommend, but it'll do it!

What I would like us quicker action at the top end. I still find myself having to take a small 'Second Bite' unless I am really planning ahead. Mind you I'm ancient and close to senile so perhaps its better this way....

They have quick-turn throttles too for you racer types.

I have big hands and on top of the stock grips I have "grip puppies".  Giant foam things which increase the size of the grips.  These help me relax my hands on the grips whether I am on the open road or gnashing my teeth in trafffic.

I have one of their Quick turn throttles on my Honda Grom since you have to wring the 125cc neck everywhere :-). It's amazingly smooth and snappy compared to all the throttles i have used. They have a slick plastic bushing inside that effortlessly turns on the metal bar. Grips stay in place also.

Looks like they only have one for the GRiSO 1100

OK? But apart from having a swanky aluminium crank what else does it do? To actually change the gearing to a quicker action it would need a larger cam. If you use a larger cam there has to be enough extra adjustment in the cables to allow for it, (Or different cables.) and a similarly larger mount. I can't see what this offers apart from bling factor and more weight?

So, you are interested?

(1) It is not as pretty as the picture and you can't see it when installed
(2) It is as light a a feather, very close to the plastic stock piece
(3) It does have a larger cam and the cams are interchangeable on the tubes
(4) It fits the stock housing but there is obviously a limit to how big the cam can be

Let's say you have to pull the cable three inches to fully open the butterflies. Say the smaller cam needs to rotate 180 degrees to pull three inches. The larger cam needs only 90 degrees but it is still three inches of cable. Why would you need longer cables?

This product is creeping Ducati-ism but the "street tamer" does what they said it would for less than $100 so I am satisfied.

OK, point taken. Thing is to make the throttle action less abrupt and more subtle you'd need a smaller rather than larger barrel so which is it? I'm still confused? Mind you confusing me isn't hard...

Pete, if you go back to the OP you'll see that this is exactly what he has done. While he has employed a graduated cam that starts small, then increases in radius as the throttle is twisted. Subsequent posters commented that a larger cam might also be preferred by some and the OP show that the cams are interchangeable in the system and that larger/quicker cams are available.

Hopefully now everyone is confused...

What's wrong with the stock throttle? It's a big v-twin. It's got a wee bit of torque. You twist the throttle from closed on the boil and it goes.  Twisted Evil

Pussies!  Razz Very Happy

Yeah, well I'm actually wanting to go the other way. A quicker opening throttle will require a bit more finesse but means I don't have to take that 'Extra little handful' to get it fully open. It isn't helped I'm sure by my shitty oxford heated grips but with the arrival of little-old-persondom and what would appear to be the beginnings of arthritis I'm unwilling to give up my 'Little Luxuries' even though they're butt-fuck ugly and mean I have to *Think* about it before I try and pull the nipples off the end of the cables! Very Happy.

There again it could just be I'm an idiot! That's probably the more likely scenario:P

PostSubject: Re: G2 throttle - Street tamer   G2 throttle - Street tamer Icon_minitime1Fri May 30, 2014 11:53 am

I bought a G2 and believe it helped but did not completely cure the abruptness in the engine response opening the throttle from closed. Go to any trackday or school and you will be taught to trail brake to the apex and smoothly open the throttle as soon as you can. Too much slop in the cable or power coming on abruptly makes this hard to do with confidence while at maximum lean angle. No different on the street unless you tiptoe through the corners. The combo of the G2 and Beetle's map(s) made a big difference to me. If you have ridden a bike with near perfect throttle response at a track or at a sporting pace on twisty roads the difference in being able to roll on the throttle early and smoothly makes a huge difference on your corner exit speed. You don't have to be going at some crazy pace to enjoy the curves more if your technique involves rolling on the throttle while leaned over near the apex.

cheers.

I fitted the G2 this morning & took it for a test ride round the Captains flat road to Queanbeyan and back to Bungendore via Kings Hwy. As I have bad arthritis in my right hand I found it so much easier to maintain a constant speed even on Captains Flat road which is quite bumpy without it running away on me. I must say though, I'm having trouble getting used to the power compared to my 850, as I don't go over 105kph, ruptured discs and hanging on with arthritis in the hand has that effect. the G2 was a good decision though.

Ha! The Filthy Midget has found us!

Yeah, Dave, we'll need to set up your suspension soon. We can have a play but best bet will be go and see Laurie the 'Suspension Smith' in Isa St. He vastly improved mine.

Welcome by the way.

This is Dave of the Orange G8 I posted a pic of a few weeks ago.

Actually a bike is the best form of transport in these conditions. The technique is called "gutter-balling". Get to the far left lane and slide between the traffic and the parked cars. Watch out for pedestrians stepping off the curb and angry people bolting from taxis in frustration. Smooth throttle control is a must.
