Spending our last night here at Smoky Bay, before heading on to Ceduna & the Nullabour. Spent a few days, down from Port Augusta to Whyalla & down the coast to Port Lincoln & up the coast again. There's not a lot of twisty bits, nor anything you could call hills, but it has been good riding. The road surfaces are excellent, the traffic sparse to say the least, lots of flat country meeting wetlands meeting crop land bordering the sea, estuaries, the ocean & bays. True, it has been cold riding (mostly 10 - 15C) & colder camping out, but the clear days, the changing scenery, the interesting detours combined with the view down clean, wide, empty roads has been stunning. And we have only ridden two of the main roads here. When I think what a meal a GRiSO would make of this place...... Do try to bring your GRiSO down to this neck of the woods sometime. I'm sure it will thank you.

Ahoy Mal&Mal,
Guess you'll have some tyres that are worn flat in the middle by the time you get to Perth then? I'm not home till the 12th July, and then only for a few days, but it would be good to catch up. If you camping across the Nullarbor, then you can do that almost anywhere, but best showers are at Balladonia. We stayed in Nundroo and Caiguna, and accommodation was ordinary, verging on the dreadful. There may be a few whales now at the Head of the Bight, so don't drive past it. Great viewing from the cliffs.
Safe travels, mate.

Richard

Caught some whales at the Head of Bight, found some decent free camps, some with wood, too. The last day on the Nullabor, cousin Mal's toothache got worse - grumpy he got - so pushed through Norseman to Esperance. Dentist next morning, worked fine, but pity about the day. Rode out to Cape Legrande, came up over the hill at the park entrance - a solid wall of rain cloud east to west between us & the coast. Legged it back to town; no rain there. Decided to stay there for the election, so another day being a tourist around sunny tho cool Esperance. Decent food & the tourist drive - some nice bends there along a spectacular ocean backdrop.

Wave Rock today, waited out a rain storm there (well, in the cafe, next to the wood fire). 12C in the middle of the day after the rain, so likely Perth tomorrow. Cousin Mal anyway, his tooth is playing up again. I'll probably go along, then research the weather conditions for the south west corner. Cold is getting old. Going to be spending a few days there anyway - got to stock up on supplies from Mario & probably think about an early service or two. The Avons seem to be holding up well.
