I believe the throttle cables on GRISOs have a Teflon coating. hence you shouldn't lubricate them or they will turn into a congealed mess of shit. Could you use a Teflon spray compatible with metal and plastic ? Cheers

In the seven years of my 8V ownership I have lubricated my cables......Never!

Yes, they are nylon lined. Yes, if you lubricate them the lubricant will quite likely react with the nylon making it swell and the cables grab.

Leave them the fuck alone.

Pete

I'm sure Pete Roper and others will know for sure.  If you are correct about cables, perhaps a dry lube such as CRC Dry Glide containing PTFE would be the go.

Are they corrosion resistant/proof? I am submerged in salt-infused air 24/7.

While where I live is very dry I take the bikes to my beach house regularly. It's only one street back from the sea and while there are various bits that corrode I've never had a problem with the cables.

So for those of us who have already *ahem* made the mistake of lubricating these cables... How best to clean them up?

I get salt air often (anything that looks like metal will get a brown sheen in a matter of hours) and not had problems with cables - my bike is coming up to 8 years old and I have replaced quite a few of the original bolts with Stainless ones, but the cables seem ok

I got snagged at scrutineering because the throttle wouldn't snap back to idle. So Pulled the Green Rocket apart today to replace the throttle cables and found the little rubber sealing glands inside the grip assembly were the cause of all the drag,  As I'm replacing the cables anyway , decided to snip the  little rubber seals off to test the theory, Bingo, It now snaps back like a beauty Thumbs Up They where as tight as , as, .... something that's really tight
This is on my track bike so I'm not recommending anyone else does this to their bike. The snipped bit......... Little black umbrella looking thingy

I had to lube mine as I had some heated grips that used a different cable cam. The cables musta got twisted in the process. The grips went tits up after a coupla years but after spraying them with dry telon they work as good if not better than they did 10 years ago. Cut loose on that green rocket Ron.
