PostSubject: NGK cap swap   NGK cap swap Icon_minitime1Thu Aug 11, 2016 5:26 am

Good morning all. I took the advise from several about the NGK plug cap swap on my GRiSO. All I can say is Wow! It took care of most of the under 4K rpm issues and smoothed
it out and make it less jerky when in stop and go traffic. It even sounded different. Thanks for the advise for something that takes less than 30 minutes.

The stock caps are prone to damage when removed causing the start to arc to earth. Replacing them with NGK SB05E caps means the arcing problem is eliminated.

Ok Thank You - fürs to my Story - Blue sky some days of, driving through the hills - the Engine suddenly Runs with Interruptions and finaly only on one cylinder. After some 2 km i stopped and a gar driver stopped beside me also telling me that flames come out of the exhaust - fuel Not being burnt set on Fire at the Hot catalysator - the Wohle exhaust Pipe was on Fire carbon on catalysator, insulation and Aluminium Alloy were burning inside - i stopped this By Pressung my gloves on the end of the exhaust .....
Not a very good day.

Usual result of damaged plug caps if the symptoms are ignored.

Hi MK. Sorry to get back to you so late on your question. Below is a pretty detailed link on this cap swap. Originally I stated it made the bike run better initially but I also pulled the main fuses at the same time so what I was feeling was the result of that. Why did I feel compelled to pull the fuses.... not sure, might have been the beer. I am still glad I swapped them out after hearing about all of the issues.

Hello.

Here are two paintings summary of the technical information.
We can replace by the ref NGK SB05E (under the condition that the waterproofness is not optimal).
Thus it is better to choose the SD05E (If you find a seller on the Internet).
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The waterproofness between the candle and the anti-interference is correctly assured with the SD05E. He needs to take straight ahead there 10mm resistance of 5kOhm and thus olivé ref NGK SD05E.
D=10-12 mmᴓ
B=14 mmᴓ

See here Thumbs Up

Thanks for that post Jean...
As I run the Iridium plug, I know which cap is best for said plug now.
Either the SD05E or SD05F will work since I have screw on studs for the plugs. Thumbs Up

The best way to handle it in the U.S., assuming you use the stock plug, is to buy both the SD05E and the SD05F then put the bottom boot off the F onto the E cap. It's an extra $10 but then you have it sealed

If you are doing plugs too then Moto International's way is to use the SD05F cap and swap the plugs for the CR8EIX to give the correct terminal. That plug is 1mm shorter but MI says it works fine.

Since I'm running the CR8EIX, that was what I planned to do...
