PostSubject: Bugger, he said.   Sun Mar 09, 2014 4:35 am

I was going for a ride this afternoon.  I mounted the GRiSO in my driveway, started the engine, and...

..next thing I know, I'm lying on my side, the GRiSO on top of me, my wife and son standing over me asking me if I am alright.

How did I get here?

Stuffed if I know. I was a bit wobbly but we we got the bike up and back in the garage. I'm now sore all over and missing some skin on my left leg.

Busted the right mirror, bent the rear brake lever, scratched the CARC, scratched the oil cooler, busted the plastic cover on the right jug, scratched the valve cover and she's oozing oil.  Fook!

Bugger is right! That's a troubling occurrence. Pity the GRiSO, but that can all be remedied. More importantly, hope all checks out well with the Beetle.

Oy!

Bike is all easy fix mate, getting the medical check is the most important step in fixing the bike. All the best.

be careful bending the lever back into straightness.
It's mounted with a bolt - not a frame piece.
My pivot bolt broke off while riding after it got "straightened"

Any scratches on your helmet? Coz it sounds like you may have bounced your head off the driveway and "erased a few seconds of memory...

Firstly, as others have said, get the bod checked out.

On the bike? Plastic bit for rocker cover costs nuffink, rocker cover itself is a bit more pricey, well, a lot more pricey! I think I have one in stock for your bike. Leak is probably just from biffing the gasket and 'Tampons' around the bolts. Oil cooler cover will buff out and can easily be painted and I have a spare, black, un-damaged CARC we can swap out and I have spare cases, (Which you can't buy separately.).

Repairs should be quick, easy and pretty inexpensive.

Pete

PS. I'm hoping to have this Wagga Norge ready this week. If your bike isn't rideable or you don't want to ride until you're given the all clear I could probably run the Norge back to its owner in the SKV and pick up your GRiSO at the same time, drag it back here for repairs and fit the new shock.

Thanks guys. There's a small scratch on my helmet, so my noggin did bounce.

DM, noted re lever.

I will get myself checked, but I have a history of going down like a bag of shit when dehydrated. That's why I always carry a bottle of water with me. I suspect that's what happened, given the day of toil I had.

Pete, thanks. I'll be seeing you soon. We can discuss re-pretty-fying the G then.

Was it hot in Wagga yesterday? If so then yes, dehydration is at least likely to be a contributing factor. I'm terrible with that. In high summer here if I'm busy I just forget to drink and then all of a sudden get the shakes! My gall bladder also tells me if I'm not drinking enough water, that really sucks!

Both Jude and I got really wobbly last northern summer when we got to Dodge City on the Cali. 44*C in the shade and we'd had a long day! Jude also found that water alone wasn't enough for her. She needed electrolyte replacement shit as well. While 'Powerade' type stuff may taste disgusting, (Sweat in a bottle! Razz) it does do what it claims although I prefer that shit you get in sachets from the chemist.

I've only fainted once in similar circumstances about ten years ago. Its not a nice experience.

It was only 30 degrees, but I'd been working in the garage from 11 to 3, and only stopped once for a drink, and only because my son suggested it. It's a bad habit, I get into a state of concentration and often forget to eat & drink.

The first time I went down I was at work, and working in healthcare, they fawned over me and I was carted off in an ambulance. That's happened twice.

The same thing happened to Jin (FreshEgg) last summer riding home from the MotoGP races at Laguna Seca. Heat stroke, heat exhaustion, dehydration, whatever, he just kind of blacked out in a turn and bounced his GRiSO into the ditch. Fortunately, he went down on the left side and saved his CARC housing.

Maybe one of those CARC guards isn't such a bad idea. Even if it's just some kind of a nub to ward off the grinding...

I have a CARC guard, but took it off because of concerns the brake caliper might snap off in a crash. A scratched CARC will still work, and won't cost a fortune to replace.

Oh no Beetle!!  Sad  Sad
Nice of Pete to help you with the bike and get yourself checked up real good...
I don't want to scare you but it could always be a case of pre-stroke while it's easy to blame it on the heat/dehydration.
I'm saying this cause I lost a friend that way...

Too bad we have a bit of a Geographical challenge, because I'd gladly help you with your bike.Smile

Hey beetle
Bike are just parts, as long as you are ok that's the main thing.
Get well and go for a ride buddy.

That really sucks. It might be dehydration, but check it out. Are you on high blood pressure meds?
