Hello everybody

Today I finally managed to spend some time with the GRiSO and her new exhaust. At 9am sneaked out of the house and recovered after 9 hours and some 500 kilometers back, come back happy and satisfied.

By the "Pfälzer Wald" towards France and in "Schönau" fueled:

Next to "Bitche" (F) and at the Citadel a latching:

Then even more in France and then made my way back. In "Annweiler am Trifels" again tanked and then made in "Alsenz" again a break:

Now it's "Is the Mistral exhaust good":
(GRiSO 1200 8V SE roller tappets, air filter without change, Mistral conical with DB-killer in, own mapping with Lambda off)

- Start goes without problems.
- Warm-up just like the original somewhat behave/surly on gas.
- Volume in stand as when traveling with the original comparable.
- Sound pleases me well, not so deep as the original, but vigorous patting.
- Performance-wise, I could not feel a big difference. Can with 30 km/h roll by respective zones with 1500 U/min, without lumps. From 2500 U/min he pulls evenly (elastic) by upward, it is really funny from 4500 U/min up to ....
- Gas close, no slippers/bangs.
- Vibrations in the range of 3000 U/min significantly more like the original, but without being disagreeable.
- At low speeds you can hear a slight hiss, but there is no leak, but comes from the DB-killer. I guess by the passage of the small holes in the killer.
- The Mistral become at the transition to the collector a golden color. Very beautiful.
- After 500 km every screws are still tight and the DB-Killer is in place.

These are my personal and therefore subjective experiences. Dynamometer I do not need, because my butt is sensitive enough and my driving was really fun. I'm not a highspeed fetishist, but working on a round (rubber band), speedy driving style. On Mapping I'm still tinkering something to optimize the warm-up behavior and consumption. May be, i ask Mark (Beetle) to help me or give me some tips

I am absolutely satisfied!

Markus, the 8V vibrates when AFR is lean. You might want add, say 2%, fuel in the 3000 RPM range.

Good tip, thank you and I think you've got right. On the other hand, at low rotations, it is likely to be fat. It smells of petrol. I am thinking right now, whether I speak with my Minister of Economics (best wife of all), go to GRiSO.org and push some buttons. Wink

Mainz? Ancient Roman capital of Germania Superior. The absolute bitter end of the Empire of the West! On the mainland at least! Home as well to the 'Lost Legions' I believe? Some of the other spots up in Cumbria in Britania were probably more miserable but the 'Free Germans' were notorious for being the most savage of a very savage lot!

Jude and I are actually thinking of dropping in to see Triere, an ancient Roman fort. Perhaps we could meet up for a beer?

(Jude has a degree in pre-imperial Roman history so we tend to spend a lot of time visiting Roman stuff when we're travelling. Not everybody's cup of tea but it works for us!) Very Happy

Don't forget to reset the TPS and autolearning parameters. You'll need to set the valves at 0.1mm and 0.15mm.

Mapping is written to my GRiSO and TPS and Autolearning is reset. Next week my GRiSO have a service date at the local MG dealer. After that, i will controll the valves by myself again. But i think, everything is ok, it's a good dealer/bike workshop.

Hello Mark (Beetle) and all other

After I installed the new (Beetle) mapping on Sunday, today the first test ride was completed. With much fun I'm 120 km driven and can now say something about the mapping:

- The motor moves to the first touch of the Start-button directly.
- The Warm-up phase is significantly better and barely perceptible.
- The vibrations are only very small and a small area to feel (3000-3200 U/min). Much better than before and not disturbing.
- Drive with less than 2000 U/min (for example second gear, very low speed) was better before. But I know that this is too low anyway, for a two-cylinder with this capacity. So, it’s OK.
- From 2000 U/min motor rotates upward like a rubber band. Oh well, from 2500-3500 very nice and from 3500-> wow. Before, the wow has begun about 4500 with a kick at 5000. I love to ride a rubber band motor, so it’s perfect for me.
- Gas closed, it bangs very rare (only 3 times for the 120 km).
- After refuel, I am of the opinion that the consumption is lower. Must be verified.


Summary I can say, that you've done a very good job Mark. I will watch everything on and report here. I hope this is not too boring for you/all.

Today was the day for a little service:

In and out was a little to much (in 0,13mm, out 0,18mm). A small work at the 8mm nut and the 3mm inbus and everything was perfect. In 0,10mm and out 0,15mm.

The tipp for removing the spark plugs is very good:

After that i synchronize the cylinder, reset the TPS and autolearning parameters and change all oils. Tomorrow then comes the test drive.

Braubach does not ring a bell. Maybe I should check. Had several very, very bad experiences with Stein in Rüsselsheim, so I'd not recommend the guy. I have seen one GRiSO during a ride through town a few weeks ago, and that's that. KH is Kaiserslautern, right?

Sure we can do a trip. Currently I am still chilling in the Tuscany, but I'll be back in a week.

Nice, Markus! I think the Mistral conical suits the GRiSO's look well. Glad to hear you have it pretty well sorted now. Next, suspension, I guess.

By the way, I marveled at your fellow countryman Ken Roczen this year as he destroyed the best the U.S. has to offer in outdoor motocross here in the states. Bad start? Didn't matter- he was through the pack in a lap or two and then set sail, made it look easy. Just really smooth, flowing rider- reminded me of Jean Michelle Bayle in his prime. Congrats! Prediction: he'll take both of his motos in the MX of Nations.
