Know a guy looking to sell a 2014 Norge for only $8000. Looks like new. My only concern is he's put 6k miles on it running PC5 with auto tune. I have no experience with these things, but understand they are shit. Is there likely to be any harm done, or is it simply a matter of unplugging the wretched thing and loading up a proper Beetlemap? scratch

Worse case scenario is that it was run stupid-rich and excess fuel has washed the bores. Ask me how I know.

Thanks Mark. I don't like the sound of that. Maybe better not to roll the dice on that one.

Easy way to tell. Pop a valve cover. If you can smell fuel, run away.

To be honest at such low mileage it is unlikely to have had a chance to damage itself. Why not see if they will take the Mana in part ex? Strip the shitty PCV/AT off, (Funny innit how so many people, especially in So Cal, spend all that money and then put their bikes on the market soon after?). Just make sure some dingbat hasn't messed with the 'Sacred Screw'.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I think I'll have a closer look at it this weekend. With the 8Vs on the way out, it would be nice to grab a Norge or Stelvio to complement the GRiSO. Both are fantastic in their own unique ways.

Well, the Norge looks like a great buy. Just one obstacle remains, the approval of my lovely pillion. I need to take her for a test ride. I showed her a photo of it and she said it looks like the Mana. Why would you buy that? Question If she had her way, we'd be riding a Goldwing or some other monstrosity with an easy-chair in back.  No  So the Norge seems like a good compromise. She likes the Mana, but on longer days I see her look longingly at aforementioned monstrosities. So I hope it doesn't sell before I can take her for a ride on it. The guy isn't interested in a part trade, needs cash. So the Mana will remain. Even if we get the Norge, I enjoy having the Mana in the rotation for my short commute. I haven't found a handier bike around town. I may have to part with the T-100. I love to look at it, but somehow it always loses to the GRiSO when I go for a fun ride solo.

I forgot to mention that the over-fueling bit is very clear. After no more than two minutes at idle, the whole garage stunk of fuel. What a disaster this PC bullshit is for the 8V. But he says he only ran it about 1k miles with PC, out of 6k total. The snake oil business is thriving here in So Cal. No  Pity we no longer do tar and feathers to these hucksters.

But it makes them run so smooth! The snake-oil salesman also claims to be an expert in fuel injection! Just ask, he'll tell you. He spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars adding 10 percent extra fuel to the map and 1 degree of advance. Worth every cent of the $500 of your hard-earned. All the fan-boi's will tell you too! Buy it now!

A 2-up ride was all it took. His and hers Guzzis!

Very hard to pass up for the money. Half what the poor guy paid for it two years ago.

Once I figure out how to remove the PC/AT, it'll be time for a proper Beetlemap. cheers

Just sitting in my garage, the fuel stench is overwhelming! Gotta remove the PC/AT, tune and remap before riding any further. If my garage wasn't well ventilated, the water heater might ignite the vapors! No fuel leak visible anywhere, but how anybody could think it's healthy is beyond me. Nuts!

When you pull it all off, you can hock it to recoup some of your $$$. They say suckers are aplenty

Removing the PCV/AT is an easy job, 15 minutes including snipping any zip ties.

Good riddance. Not so quick with all the Norge plastic in the way.

Another 8v saved by a Beetlemap! The Norge runs like my GRiSO now, but with even better fuel economy.  cheers Went for a nice 2 up ride today and we both love the Norge. So smooth and comfy. Another keeper she says. queen

Take it back to visit the PO and let him take a test ride. Then ask him to be honest and say which version rides better.

Then tell him how much it cost and see if his head explodes! Very Happy

If I let him ride it now, he might not come back. Razz
I feel bad for the guy. He sold me a magnificent motorcycle at a huge loss, without knowing how great it could be. Makes me wonder how many others have been conned the same way. Could have been me, if I hadn't stumbled into the Ghetto. A big thanks to the Ghetto and all who contribute for the love of Guzzi.

cheers
