Tony, I'm using two Samsung devices, Galaxy Nexus phone and Galaxy tablet, both running 4.1.2. The phone is rooted, but that shouldn't make a difference. Both connect and work OK.

Have you updated to the latest version of the app? v1.03 I think it is.

Mark, Yes 1.03 on both devices. Thanks for the idiot guide - obviously you hadn't taken me into consideration  elephant
Paul - no ABS - is the third wire needed? what for?

No it's not needed at a 5am, but the ABS version of you bike has two diagnostic plugs, one for the abs with 3 wires. Then you can wait very long as it never connects there

Straw clutching here - Is there a possible problem with the pins on the 16 pin end of the cable where the dongle connects? The OBD-to-USB cable may have better connection.

Also, once the ELM connection is made, do you see blinken lights on the dongle?

You mentioned that you had modded the 3 pin to 16 pin cable with a cigarette lighter plug. Is the ground at the battery (or chassis) or the diagnostic socket?

Tried the older applications Paul - no difference.

Mark, you might be on to something there - I will run a wire to the battery from the -ve lead of the plug - and see what blows...

Tried both units in my car - still neither will talk to the application (iOBD2) through bluetooth - so I suspect my Samsung devices or Android, or the operator. Surely I didn't buy 2 dud dongles...

Never say never.

I seriously doubt it's Android. It might be your phone, but to have both your phone and tablet not work?

Hi,
I'm Christian, the author of ScanM5X. If I can help you.

first, have you tried to connect with the engine running, to be sure the ECU is ready?
Then I quickly wrote a FAQ to try to understand what is happening.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Download “ELM327 Terminal” on Google Play, it’s free.
Connect your ELM
Send : atz
ELM327 v1.4 ... :Your phone is connected with ELM-BT
Send : attpa5 to control that your ELM Version know this command (Marelli protocol 5)
OK
Send 2130
NO DATA
Cut power to the ELM and then power again to initialize the BT communication

Send 2130
SEARCHING...
UNABLE TO CONNECT : The ECU does not respond
Turn Key OFF/ON or run engine, the ignition must be ON < 10sec., check your wires.

Send 2130
61 30 00 00 ECU Connected, Enjoy
If fail, send the log of dialog.

Note: the new car don't use the same pin of ELM: CAN+ and CAN-, 5AM use line K.

Christian,

Thanks for this. I downloaded this application from the Google Play Store.

I tried all of this today without much success. In fact, when I send an "atz" code (the old modem wakeup call?) I get "OK Ver 1.5" and atz and OK Ver 1.5 many many times, even though I send it only once. This means it is stuck in a loop on both my dongles?

I had no success with attpa5 or 2130 codes.

Any ideas on what is wrong?

Maybe we should take this off line - my email is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Thanks for any advice.

I may have missed something here but have you tried the Torque app [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] on a car with your phone and bluetooth connecter. You don't need the KKL cable for this. There is a free Torque version available.
I had trouble with my first blutooth device so bought another and it worked on the car. Funny thing is I had to remove the Torque app from the phone before I could use the Scan app on the bike.

When you use ELM with Torque or other OBD app on your car, the ELM device stores the last protocol then it will use the next time. But cars and our 5A don't have the same (CAN / KWP) and ELM take a lot of time to find.
With ELM327 Terminal, the connection is manual, and you can wait.
Torque and ScanM5X are not mutually exclusive.

I asked Christian if he could increase the sampling rate and he has done it!

Using the 1.05 beta I noted an approximate 20% increase in sampling rate.

 Thumbs Up  cheers

ScanM5X 1.05 is released in Google play.

Improving the acquisition frequency from 560ms to 460ms in Dashboard screen
Display the lambda value in Trimmer screen
Data Log enable/disable with button of Volume Up / Down in Dashboard screen

With my soft ScanST for windows and KKL-USB I get 300ms but PC + ELM327 I do not get better than 450 ms for the same measures.

Can someone please tell me what OBD 2 protocol our GRiSO's use? I need to know so I can get the right bluetooth adapter. I tried ordering the one davem mentioned in an earlier post but Amazon don't ship to Sweden....... So I have to buy it locally but need the protocol standard.
