Just for giggles I thought I’d share this with you, I’ve drained the engine oil ahead of a week away on the GRiSO and I find this little fella hiding in the drain tray.

It’s a 2013 Factory Roller so what do you reckon it could be?

For what it’s worth it was this time in 2018 and I’ve thrashed the GRiSO for 2 years over 16000 miles through 9 countries with this part missing.

Looks like a valve lash adjuster with the 'Elephant's Foot' removed. Which would be weird as you can't remove them without removing the rocker.

👍🏻 That was my thought Pete, perhaps our Italian friend was trying to sabotage the job? I never did find the elephant foot I’m just hoping that came out with the PO oil change.

Does it have a 3mm hex in the end without the ball?

Nah. They have a shoulder on them, the ball is bigger and how the hell would one get in the sump? Laughing

There's no path from the valves down to the sump, so it has to have slipped in there at the factory.

Good quality control!

I was thinking the bit wasn't in the sump at all!

Based on what Luigi didn't do to my bike he probably left some spare parts caught up on the gear housing to have it eventually make its way on the drain tray.

There is on the 8V's Dave. There are big drain galleries in the outside of the barrel and then there's the cam chain tunnel.

Yeah, as I thought, it's a valve adjuster. The 'Foot' would be in there somewhere too, if you drop the sump you'll probably find it.

If you haven't done the spacer gasket replacement yet now is probably a good time. If you've just done the oil though it can probably wait until next time. It's probably lying in the bottom of the sump and is unlikely to suddenly leap up of its own volition and do any harm.

D’you know that’s the one thing I haven’t done on this bike - the sump gasket. I’ll do that next oil change - thanks for the nudge! 👍🏻👍🏻

Number 15 and 17 required?

Yup. It's 15, the upper one, that tends to blow out. Make sure you get the thicker aftermarket type to replace the original.

Job done - reunited the elephants foot with adjuster 😂 Although the spacer gasket was actually intact.

So, you going to tell us the story on how it got there? Extra parts or your fault?

It came free with the GRiSO when I bought it, I found the threaded part after 5 thousand miles of ownership in my drained oil and I just dropped the sump 15000 miles later to retrieve the elephants foot.

Did anyone see that Gutsibits have Supplied the wrong gaskets - they have a ‘GRiSO all’ it clearly isn’t.

I'd have thought you have the right two gaskets for 2013 MY....After 2015 they went one-piece sump & for that you'd need the B063861 gasket plus another separate one for where oil filter housing fits.

Some of the ‘oles aren’t big enough, I had to open them out as neatly as I could.

I found a small screw in the bottom of my sump when I took it off. It *is* like a box of cornflakes, with a surprise inside and everything! Smile
