PostSubject: How long did YOUR GRiSO sit in a showroom ??   Tue Sep 16, 2014 8:32 pm

Its my unscientific impression that Dealers are selling more Guzzis (of all models) now. Wasn't always so.
My local (Daytona Fl) sales guy told me they can sell every one they get - but then, he would say that wouldn't he ??

As a data point, my 2008 G11, manufactured 07/2007, sold to the first owner in 05/2010.
So, it sat in a dealer(s) for probably 2 1/2 years (allowing for shipping time to US, all of Italy closed for August etc).

Last winter, a dealer in Wichita Kansas finally unloaded a new zero-mile 2007 GRiSO........that sat somewhere for about 7 years !

How old was your GRiSO when it was first sold ??
Year   /   Age when first sold in months    /   Model  /   Country

And, if there's enough data, I'll graph this and get an idea how these beast are selling.
(Its not going to be conclusive, because we here are a non-representative 'self-selected' subset of GRiSO owners....)
Plus - we all know Guzzi Owners are a bunch of cheap bastards  tongue

Mine's a 2010 that I bought new in Jan 2012. If you beleive the dealer, it sat at the importers all that time

2009/6/8VSE/Singapore

I bought mine with a deflated front tire. Waited 3 months to get a new alpina rim from Italy. So it sat 6+3 months in the showroom. It was a multi brands dealer, must be a very bad publicity for the marque when potential motorcycle buyers strolling the showroom and pointed, "Look! a new guzzi with deflated tire!"

Mine is a 2012 flat tappet model.
Purchased Feb 2014

I was told imported December 2012 and at least 6 months at the dealer.

Hmm - is that normal ?? Anyone (Roper-san ??) have any idea how long the sales and delivery channel is ??
I'd kind of assumed that Piaggio ship the bikes out soon after production, and after a slow boat to the destination (say 2 weeks to East Coast US, 2 or 4 weeks Down-Under) they went straight to the Dealers.  Maybe a couple of months total.
Or am I projecting American Business priorities ('gotta generate revenue') onto the Italians !!

Why would an Importer hold on to them ?? Recalls/fixes ?? Type Approval/Legal stuff ??  Ordering Dealer folded ?? (for the 1200/4V) Too many unsold 1100/2Vs ??

Something to consider is colour. Mine's black. Maybe in '10 the other colours sold better? Maybe mine went back to the importer after a dealer went bust? Or lost Guzzi?

It's a low volume manufacturer with a limited dealer network. They supply as demand dictates. Some market dictations are slower than others...

Bought my 2015 when it was in a crate on the truck headed to the dealer.

Certificate of origin said it was made in August. Purchased in September.

2015/0/1200 8V SE/USA

BTW: The dealer says they sell about 1 GRiSO a month. Someone picked up the last 2014 white one they had a week before I got mine.

Probably not relevant now, my 1100 was sold to the 1st owner in July 2006.
It was the first sold in QLD, Australia.

Mine has had the same front wheel issue from day one, except they added air frequently at the dealer I got the bike from, but did not fix it...and after 1.75 years they and piaggio still won't admit loosing 25psi a day is a problem or that they forgot to finish building the wheel altogether...Just wish the new ones were 10% as well built as my mandello rosso. But to the point a GRiSO averages 4 mths in Ga. on the floor.

Getting wheel parts (not as a full kit) from alpina is proving to be difficult for me to rebuild my front wheel

The vin number on mine is 08, i can't tell which month, and was registered in may 09. I had the seat off earlier to take off the pillion strap and that was made in 07.

Just a few weeks. I was out of town (riding an FJR) and the local dealership called to tell me that a 2015 just arrived. We had been talking about it a few weeks earlier, so he gave me shout. Funny what a phone call can do.

It is a great bike! Quick, comfortable and well built. Handles much better than its weight would suggest.

And yes, it is big fun. Thumbs Up

One of the first 8V bikes in the U.S. went to the Brooklyn dealer. He had it on the floor for a while and then took it to the NY MC show after which it returned to the sales floor. I waited a few more months before approaching him about buying it. He wanted MSRP plus every added fee he could think of. It took him a year but he eventually found someone willing to pay.

Jacquie pre-ordered her Greenie SE when they announced that they were going to be in the U.S. It came in 4 months later and spent about a day at the dealership before she picked it up.

Very Happy
