Fuel Additive for Ethanol Problems Empty
PostSubject: Fuel Additive for Ethanol Problems   Fuel Additive for Ethanol Problems Icon_minitime1Tue Dec 09, 2014 11:45 pm

So I sailed the vast internet seas of cheese looking for magic sauce to neutralize the corn alcohol that is forcibly polluting our fuel.

Hilariously, I discovered that the vast majority of fuel stabilizers contain... wait for it... MORE ALCOHOL!  Often isopropyl.

I'm no Einstein, but methinks more alcohol is NOT the solution to our alcohol woes.

So I found two products that are alcohol free and seem to get consistent good reviews:

Star Tron

Sta-bil Marine

Both products are about 95% Naphtha, 5% proprietary secret sauce.

I opted to try the Star Tron and here is my experience.

As directed, I added about 1 oz per 3 gals of fuel.

All 4 of my machines seem to really like the stuff.  They start quicker and idle more smoothly and quietly.  The biggest difference is in the running of my Suzuki 650 thumper powered Ryca.  This bike used to really piss and moan for a minute or two on cold mornings. Stuttering and sputtering are completely gone with Star Tron in the tank. I suspect it's the fussy little Mikuni carb on the bike that's seeing the benefit.

I was very skeptical about all these additives until now. But I must admit that Star Tron works. And I found some independent test results of several brands that prove both the Star Tron and Sta-bil are very good at preventing the phase seperation that happens when fuel sits for long periods.

My only lingering worry is about reports that additives in general can be bad for O2 sensors in the long run.

Any thoughts on that possibility?

I've been using Star Tron in my Dorsoduro for about six months (plastic tank issues). The bike is definitely happier. It runs better under all conditions.

Steel cut oats will soak all that ethanol up. Just pour 'em into the tank.
