So where has this come from? Empty
PostSubject: So where has this come from?   So where has this come from? Icon_minitime1Mon Jan 02, 2017 9:57 am

So i have taken the swing arm off and applied grease to all of the bearings in the suspension and swingarm, took the shock off and cleaned it up, a job i have put off since i bought the bike a couple of years ago. While i was taking the swing arm off, this bush dropped on the floor. I had the two footrest plates off, the rear wheel, disconnected the rear brake and the torque arm, as you can see from the bottom photo.

i have now put most of it back together, thinking that it will be obvious where it fits as its a large bush, but i have not found a home for it.

Can someone shed some light?

Not sure, but it looks like a back wheel spacer bushing (cant remember for sure), its been a while since I had the swing arm off,

Someone will be along shortly with a definitive Exclamation

Now that is interesting as i thought it fell out when i moved the wheel, but cannot see where it would fit?

Hi, just in case that you haven't put everything together yet, can you please measure the diameter of the bush that holds the swing arm axis? The one that has the 4 ingots - also how wide those ingots are?

I'll also take off the swingarm to grease the joints, I'm thinkng of making a "special tool" for this, by grinding a hex socket, having it ready would be nice. Thanks.

Hi, that wont need to come off to replace the bit i need to fit, sorry. I used a simple c spanner for the rear shock for mine :-)

What is the purpose of this T-bush? When I regreased my suspension needle bearings on my B11, the Guzzi dealer had place this on the OUTSIDE of the swingarm, acting like a washer for the bolt nut. Apart from the bottom shock mount being able to slide about on the bolt the bolt itself would be unsupported along a lot of its length. Big stress raiser on the bolt and a torsional stress on the swingarm boss.

Petros, don't stress about the castellated nut torque setting or tightness, it is barely more than finger tight.
The 2 pinch bolts in the swingarm keep it in check. Overtighten the nut and you'll be stressing the tapered roller bearings.

At most a 'C' spanner will be the only "special" tool required.

Yup. The cast elated nut just preloads the tapered rollers. Do it the same as a trailer wheel bearing.

It should be in the inside, the connecting block is offset in the swing arm and there is a larger gap on the exhaust side, which gets filled by the flange on the bush. If you remove the rear wheel and peer at the suspension you will see the gap. I would guess that you will just stress the swingarm with the bolt otherwise, as the bush is shorter than the thickness of the swingarm, and is used as the butt for the roller bearing internal spacer.

It was a nice tight fit, when i put it back in and all makes sense :-)

Thanks Sid and Pete. I'll go and check that I put it in the correct side.
