The lighting on my 8V is not poor by any stretch. However, as an inveterate, recidivist CA lanesplitter, I feel it is important to throw as many 'trons down-range as possible to stay safe[r] and live to split another day.

Without, of course, irritating the car [cage] drivers too much or breaking the budget.

Incandescent lights are incredibly passe; halogens hoover up resources. While the 8V has a very capable alternator, why push it? For example, a set of Hella FF50s [used on a previous bike] will set you back 55w [and who knows how many amps] per light, and just over $100 for a pair. The light thrown down-range is good, but...LED lights are the future. Unfortunately, prices for these incredibly efficient lights are only beginning to come down, and I couldn't wait any longer.

These, on the other hand, seemed to fit the bill: 20w each light @ <1 amp each, $120/pair. As I have bar-end mirrors, I had the perfect mounting points, only minor mods to the mounting brackets were needed to accommodate the fairly large metric bolt used with the OEM mirrors.

The whole setup, including lights, switched electrical harness, PWM dimmer, soldering and whatnot was probably $150 plus a few too many hours wrenching in the garage after work.

Cars seems to see me easier now, and the inline PWM dimmer will allow me to dim or turn off the lights to avoid needless irritation of other drivers when on country roads, touring or whatnot.

All-in-all, it seems to be a pretty good setup for a fairly good price..

Rubber-side down!

The tunnel of light...

On my 1100, I mounted up some PIAA 1100x platinum dichroic driving lights onto my GIVI A770 faring. They worked very well, but I haven't decided yet whether to put the faring on the 1200.

I wired up the hi/lo switches for my heated grips and the PIAA lamps on the underside of the left cowling. Pretty slick I thought.

Very nice! I'll have to think about your switch placement for my lights sometime in the future.

The more light the better. I expect to get a GRiSO in about 10 days (that's it's own story) but also have a Harley-D Sportie. Put LED bezel around headlight for a little more show. Arlen Ness makes one for 5-inch headlamps. Kuryakyn makes one for 3.5". As I don't have the GRiSO yet, what size is the headlight?

Looking into getting some aux lights myself.. How good is the GRiSO's electrical system? so basically how powerful lights can I get and not have to worry about killing the battery?

It's not the battery, it's the alternator, unless you run them all at idle.

The CARC bikes with the high mount Alt all have 600W alternators. You can run lights that will burn holes in cardboard at 500 metres with no issues.

So i'm good on the CARC bike--2009 GRiSO. So I don't really have to worry about what I plug in as long as the bike is running correct?? How did you wire them? looking for advice and probably going to get a pair of H&B crash bars and mount to there. Unless i get another inspiration

I haven't got any auxiliary lighting because I never ride after dark, with the 'Roos around here to do so is bordering on the suicidal! I had one cistomer who had ounted two spot ties on the handlebars, it actually looked quite good.

I mounted Denali D4's on mine. These things are wicked! I'll try to get some pics posted soon. As I see it, when the zombies come...we'll want lights that reach out as far as possible Smile

Specs:
Pod Size: 3.9in square x 2.5in long
LED: (4x) 5 Watt CREE XP-G2
Beam Distance: 550ft
Power Draw: 3amp per pair
Waterproof: IP-68 (full immersion at 6.6ft for 60 minutes)

I bought H & B crash bars and mounted the lights to those. The wiring was done by my local dealer. I will get more pics taken this weekend and post them. You can see a few pics under my "Zombie Runner" post.
