PostSubject: Idle rise....   Idle rise.... Icon_minitime1Tue Mar 31, 2015 7:19 am

I've been playing around with the ecu tables for a while now. Past couple of days I was paying close attention to the ignition advance, concentrating on car park and U-turn smoothness. Peculiar thing is, no matter what changes were made to the idle timing, GD always read around 4deg while idling. Anyway, as I was getting ready for bed, I got an idea. I wondered if this discrepancy correlates to the idle rise when the clutch is pulled. Back to the garage, connect, start, pull...Lo and behold, immediately, the advance jumps to about 10deg, followed by the famous rise.

This is just a 'MAYBE' as I had quite a few drinks. Notwithstanding, it's worth exploring further, but not tonight. Mark, Roper?

Al, you had too many drinks - surprising, I thought you were a sponge...

Having too many drinks is no excuse, I'd be more worried if you were on the wagon.

For your next avatar, ride to Haigslea pub, they have a 30' monument to a bottle of rum. Park your bike behind it and then take a photo.

I was neither curious nor concerned about idle rising, but I was about the idle ignition timing. Now I know that something is overriding the main table under certain circumstances. It'll be interesting to know why.

Why bother? Because more information and knowledge will aid diagnosis of potential dilemmas. Or satisfy people's curiosities.

DM I'm on the wagon too, but every time The Saint drops by he wants to go for a ride to the pub.
I ride silly enough when I'm sober, I don't need to add alcohol.

For those that may be interested. I can confirm that the idle rise is related to change in ignition timing when the clutch is engaged or disengaged. If your map is based on the G803 this will be the case it seems. 68S on the other hand is not affected.

It would be interesting to see if this is consistent. Next time you connect GD note which map you've got, wheather or not the timing changes when the clutch is pulled and released and effect on the idle. Please post the findings.

Cheers
Al

Actually, the ignition timing changes when you pull the clutch in. It is hard coded into the 03 software. I'm sure I've told you this before. There are different fudge factors coded into the 03 map and 68S maps that make them behave differently. There's a reason why every map I have developed uses the 03 map as a base and uses the 68S ignition timing, or a derivative thereof.
