PostSubject: Tomorrow dyno runs    Tomorrow dyno runs Icon_minitime1Wed May 20, 2015 11:48 pm

Tomorrow is the day that I will be adding some cool stuff to my GRiSO.The life of domesticity affords me little time to pursue more stimulating activity as the bike. The wife has released for the day so the time is now.Kwik part inventory,FIK,carbon fibre mini fender , agostini hydroform slip on and last but most certainly not least, a map from Mark. I have as many dyno runs as I want and I will post when all said and done with results and pics.

Awesome!! Really interested in your results. Try and post a few videos if possible (off the dyno).

Cheers and have fun.

I didn't get as much done as I wanted today because I just ran out of time. I installed the mini fender ....very easy. I also installed the FLK fender elimination kit by light tech....reasonably easy to install. One big drawback was that the license plate light does not fit and so I'm in the process of finding an alternative light. I did a couple of dyno runs, stock pipe, stock map. I was quite happy with the 88.9 rear wheel h.p. Will try to send videos and pics when I get a chance. I will put on the pipe next week and do some more dyno runs.

How high are you? 88 seems a bit low for a stock 8V. Most of the ones I've tested have put out a solid 96 and this is on a modest dyno not one artificially set to give good figures.

Mmmmmm, we all know different dynos produce different numbers.  In March 2013 my 08 G12 gave the following:

Stock base run: max 94.7 hp @ 7000 rpm and 71.8 ft/lbs torque @ 6500 - 7000 rpm (Note, both hp and torque dropped sharply after these peaks).

Fully mapped (No snorkel and no dbks GPR muffler):  max 112 hp @  8000 - 8400 rpm and 78.9 ft/lbs torque @ 7000 rpm (Note, torque curve drops away gently but stays strong to 8500 rpm).

Not trying to win some dick measuring contest, just putting it out there.  As far as I know the Saint's more recent SE and Ghezzi's Bella were custom mapped on the same dyno by the same operator.

The dyno that I use always reads about 10% less than any other dyno I'm familiar with. In saying that, with the hp rating that I got of 88.9 hp ...add 10% brings it to about 96 on other people's dynos so that's okay to me. I'm at sea level, Pete. This dyno that I use is a modest dyno. On some of the readings on other dynos, I've seen hp readings as high as 170 but on the dyno I used it would be about 150 hp. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote down FLk, must have been thinking Harley....what I meant to write was FEK. If anyone has any ideas about hanging the stock license plate light on the FEK lite tech, I would appreciate any ideas.

thx

So what your saying is that the dyno you use is more conservative (and likely realistic) than the usual optimistically set ones everywhere else. Razz

Dyno is great for diagnosing problems and comparing results after a change is made under same conditions. Otherwise you are comparing apples to pears. The numbers don't mean much if you don't have a datum. The other thing is, dyno doesn't measure hp as such, it is calculated from the measured torque and rotational speed, which can only be reliable if it is calibrated correctly.

It seems most are calibrated on the optimistic side. Makes for happy owners. The curves generated are the really important things.

Yes I would agree that most dynos are somewhat optimistic on the highside.{not a good choice of a word when talking motorbikes}The slip on will be added this week if it does not rain.I will also install a map by Mark .Do a few runs on the dyno a tweek here an adjustment there and hopefully ride the rest of the day with a smile on my face and a three quarter chubby. One kwik note tire pressure important when on dyno.
