Which "gearbox" oil. Empty
PostSubject: Which "gearbox" oil.   Which "gearbox" oil. Icon_minitime1Mon Jun 22, 2015 11:00 am

I've done a search on gearbox oil and have found that several people have put the same grade oil in their gearbox and bevel box, but as I've gone to the trouble of buying the correct M/Guzzi listed grades, gear sae 80w 90 and mg/s sae 85w 90, I'm now confused which oil goes where as the manual just refers to the "gearbox" in both cases for the above specific grades.

So if I could differentiate between the two by calling one the gearbox (with the 6 gears in) and the final drive (the CARC). Which oil is specified for which?

Also, are there any benefits in putting some moly in as well?

I have noted that going by the service history on my GRiSO that the "CARC" has had it's oil changed x 1 , but the gearbox oil is not listed as ever having being changed and the bike has done more than 7,000 miles!     Great. I'll look out for lots of iron in the old oil. Laughing

I use the same 75/90 full synth in both. I believe the factory specifies the 85/90 in the bevelbox. No need for moly additives.

Just to be sure then (although it doesn't sound as if it is critical), the factory specs the mg/s 85w/90 in the CARC and the sae 80w/90 in the 6 speed.

OK, thanks for that.

OK, thanks and noted. I'll be doing the change this morning.

I've just re-read the posts and the fact that I didn't understand plain English makes me look a bit thick Embarassed Embarassed

Ok. Amsoil is what I use in my wrx just haven't seen a lot of guys using it for street bikes, in dirt bike it's a lil more common.

Me too. That's all I use in the GRiSO and the Stelvio. I use Redline Heavy Shockproof in both trans and rear drive.

Any ideas where I would find the oil filter cap/wrench to fit a GRiSO 8v??  In in Melbourne Oz if anyone local can offer a lend? I've just drained the old oil and can't get the filter off with a strap wrench!!!
