Thanks Steak for putting together a GRiSO forum, I guess it's my turn to introduce myself. I'm using the handle "Street", short for "Pete Down the Street" as I live just down the street from Greg Field and because there seems to be an overabundance of Pete's in the local Guzzi community - almost as many as southpaws - go figure.

I ride a 2007, 1100 GRiSO and I love the shit out of it. I'd wanted a GRiSO from the first time I saw them advertised but couldn't afford a new one so I'd asked Greg to let me know if anyone ever traded in a used one. (He was working at Moto International at the time). He called me up one day and asked, "Now, what color GRiSO was it you wanted, a red one or a black one?" I said "Oh, a black one" and he said, "Shit! Somebody just traded in a red one with a thousand miles on it." "I love red," I said, "it's my favorite color!" That was 34,000 miles ago. In fact, I just turned over 30K on the clock last week, but there's at least 5000 miles that don't show as I had a frustrating series of speedo sensor failures including one at the start of a long road trip. I've since solved that issue, knock on wood, and am looking forward to the next 30,000. At the end of June my wife and I are planning to ride the Guzzi's (she rides a 2004 California Stone) down to Albuquerque to do some site work for a public art project I have coming up there and then head west to visit an old grad school friend who lives outside of Calistoga in the Napa Valley. We'll probably log at least 3,500 miles on that trip and I'm looking forward to testing out a new set of Pilot Road 3's on the GRiSO. Tough to break from tradition - I've worn out several sets of Pirelli's but have really been curious about these Michelins.

Also looking forward to this forum, getting to know a few other GRiSO nuts and maybe even learning something along the way. When I get a chance I'll post a few pictures of some modifications I've made to my GRiSO including a custom luggage rack over the rear passenger seat and custom racks I fabricated for a set of Hepco-Becker hard bags. I've also made some stainless steel struts that make the Givi fairing more rigid and 1" aluminum handlebar risers that take a little bit of pressure off of my wrists, a necessity following carpal tunnel surgeries on both hands. I'll also report on the Pilot 3's following my trip to the Southwest. Will get them mounted next week and try to scuff the shine off of them before we hit the road at the end of the month. And hopefully I can contribute some worthwhile stories like the one about the day Steak encountered the elk. I was there.

Hey Pete!

Good to see you on this new forum. I feel the same about my GRiSO, also an 07 1100 pushrod. This bike speaks to me. I love it. You've been pilin' the miles on yours! I'm only at about 8K so far. I got married and bought a boat! What can I say?

I recently sold my Honda ST1300. It was a very competent motorcycle. I rode it 30,000 miles. But it just did not speak to me. It was like riding an industrial sewing machine. And a couple of cooling system incidents (rock hits to the radiator) convinced me that an old-fashioned, air-cooled motor is just simpler, with one less system to maintain.

There's another Pete in here - our Aussie friend with the fez. He's the GRiSO guru, among other questionable attributes, and he's a funny guy to boot! I'm looking forward to this forum being a better, less divisive mix than the "previous" forum, and thanks to Steak for getting this one up and running.

Say howdy to the crew at the Guthries' BBQ this weekend. Sorry we won't be there, but for good reason - I retired last week, and Heather is throwing me a "graduation" party tomorrow in Portland. Hopefully I will make it to Deep Forest this year.

Give our best to Esther. We hope to see you soon.

Steak and Gnorts, (yum!)

Thanks, I'll hang around here for a while and see what gives. I've never participated in a forum before , heard lots of horror stories about people acting out. Hopefully that won't be the case here or I'll just go home and play with my own toys. Besides, I have a feeling once the novelty wears off I may visit less often, but that doesn't mean I don't love you guys, it just means, well, what does it mean?

Congratulations on your retirement, John. Get Heather on a bike and start racking up some miles on that GRiSO!
