Fuel and getting it out... Empty
PostSubject: Fuel and getting it out...   Fuel and getting it out... Icon_minitime1Sat Sep 05, 2015 12:05 am

Greetings all,
Just in the planning stages of changing out that marvellously impossible release mechanism on the fuel line, and replacing it with a chrome plated brass set.
Due diligence and research suggests that I also replace the fuel filter while the tank is off and upside down...
Any reason that I can't connect A to B, and put an inline filter outside the fuel tank?
This would allow for monitoring and easy future filter changes.

(this isn't my filter set by the way, haven't pulled it yet...)

No reason not to apart from the fact there isn't anywhere really to fit it. It's all very tight under the tank. I'd just use an all metal Baldwin filter and forget about it. I still haven't changed mine at 90,000 km.

Pete

Thanks Pete,
will source Mr Baldwin.
Plenty of room under the tank on my GRiSO 'prototype' (aka 1200 Sport 2V), but if the recommended filter change is +90,000km,  Wink  then no point in that part of the exersize really!!

cheers
Pat

Pat, this connector is easy to get apart. But first you need to disconnect the power to the tank (4 pin plug) and then crank the engine over - it will not start but it will get rid of the pressure in the system and then the connector is truly a quick disconnect, as designed. Maybe a squirt of WD40 to lube the mechanism after it got cleaned by petrol from the last time you had it off.

Ha ha!
thanks Tony. Yep mine was easy to separate, and I have tried all the recommended options of easing removal, but mine has become increasingly obstinate, and although I haven't yet had the pleasure of it breaking, I feel the need of a preemptive strike...
I have recently discovered the dreaded -but seemingly unavoidable- mayo in the rocker covers, and have been frequently removing said covers after various modifications to machine and riding style to gauge effectiveness of each.
This of course requires tank removal, so the issue is exasperated.
I haven't yet been able to defeat the mayo, so will take retaliation on the connector instead!!
cheers,
Pat
