PostSubject: Zombie Runner - Mad Max Style   Zombie Runner - Mad Max Style Icon_minitime1Fri Jul 03, 2015 5:05 pm

I fully expect that many won't care for this set up, but to each their own.  The GRiSO is a sweet machine with a great deal of character.  I've started mine down a post apocalyptic road, full of zombies and road debris.  I've started this transformation with a rear rack, big fat knobby tires and crash bars with Denali LED off road lights.  What's next?  I'm not sure.  Everywhere I go, people walk in circles, mumbling under their breath...what they are saying, I have no idea.  I'm sure that some think I've ruined the look and others think it's baddass.  Like I said, to each your own.

Some ask "how well do those knobbies stick?"  My answer is always the same..."let's just say that it keeps the ride interesting".

One of the coolest bikes I've owned...GRiSO's rock!

Well damn, not sure what I am doing wrong here.  Can anyone assist me?

I upload my pics to "photobucket" first, copy the 'url' then use the 2nd icon in the 4th section of the reply box to paste and upload here.

So try again, I'm interested to see this creation/abortion (?) of yours.
Its ok, I also suffer from OCMD.

Yea, that's what I did.  I uploaded the photos to Flikr and then used the "insert an image" button and the URL's from Flikr.  Not sure why it's not working.

Next, I removed the links, put the photos in Photobucket and used insert image button...still no dice. Ugh

Interesting. Maybe a half fairing of some kind might look tough!

I like it. Bikes are a personal thing. So long as you like it, thats all that matters.
Hell, some people out there don't like Guzzi's at all!

I've always found rat bikes interesting, but I couldnt bring myself to do that to the GRiSO.

Couldn't agree with you more...it's completely a personal thing. I think the next few things will be:

- rear fender elimination
- paint stock exhaust can black
- Rock cage over headlight and paint trim ring black
- bar end mirrors

decisions, decisions...

I like the idea but I also like to chuck the beasty into corners. I reckon those tyres might ruin my confidence.

Be interested to see where you go with it for sure! Very Happy

The knobbies stick better than you might expect, but you do have to get used to how the knobs "walk" a little when really get on it in the turns. I'm not sure what other term to use to describe it...they generally dont break loose, unless I TRY to break them loose. But, you do feel the difference between a street tire and the knobby. Again, the best word I can come up with is that they "walk", which is what I meant by my initial comment about it keeping the ride "interesting". Once you get used to that and trust it, everything is fine. I push it to 90% of my riding skills without any problem. To put it in perspective, I am able to keep up with all of my friends, short of a couple of nut jobs that quite frankly, out ride everyone that I know, LOL.

Are the knobblies the same width dimension as the stock road ones ?

Yes, exact same size as stock. The rear is the same tire as is found on the BMW 1200GS Adv, I believe.

That's fair enough and i guess you also automatically adjust your riding style and get used sideways flex of them. Cool

I only rode the GRiSO for about 200 miles on the street tires before I switched to knobbies, so I didn't really get accustomed to them too much. After a couple of hundred miles on the knobby tires, I'm completely used to it. The way that you described the "sideways flex" is right on...you feel the flex of the big blocks, which at first feels like the tires are losing grip, but they really are not.

Yes, what you said reminded me of running a couple of big trial bikes and I remember the 'give' then 'grip' with those. Be interesting to see how well they wear with the power the GRiSO puts down.Glad you are enjoying the GRiSO and the customization journey too.

It ain't gonna be no long distance tire with a GRiSO,  that's for sure.  I ran these (Conti TKC80?) on a GSA for awhile and while great in the dirt, not much for long mileage.   Surprisingly decent handling, though considering what they are.

Geez,  they sure make the GRiSO look gnarly........... looks friggin cool.

Yes, Conti TKC's are what they are. Thanks, I think it looks "friggin cool" too!

It's growing on me. I don't know that it suits my particular riding style, but I do dig the look.

I like it,

The tyres work really well with the spoked wheels fitted to the later models, combined with the menacing colour scheme and wrapped exhaust headers....

Please keep us updated with pictures as you continue the theme!!

Looks pretty good, as you say the headlight's fairly naff, like its come out of a set of speakers or something

I don't like the headlight either, but I definitely like that oil cooler grille. Anybody know anything about that one?
