Hello everyone, I'm Dani from Spain. I have registered Just a few weeks ago because I'm about to purchase a GRiSO. but the new thruxton r has been arrived and I am very confused. My current bike is a 750 rc 36. I dont know what to do...

Ride the GRiSO first...the new thruxton R is a looker for sure but parallel twins are boring to me, same class as the BMW boxer... Yawn.

The Thruxton R looks like a great bike hamstrung by antiquated rear suspension. I don't know how the bikes are priced in Spain, but if the price is at all close, the GRiSO is the better choice.

that new Thruxton  seems to be a nice motorcycle, it looks good, has great torque and from what i have seen very nice build quality....that being said its a first year issue , and in my mind and from experience that could be risky as to reliability or long term performance ,its just not proven itself yet.
Guzzi has had its issues as well re the earlier 1200 GRiSO and the flat tappets ,but in time the fix is in and now i think a new/newer GRiSO 1200 would definitely be my choice for many reasons..look after one and it could very well last a lifetime..

Elby, I wouldn't call adjustable twin shock, piggy back Ohlin suspension (coupled with adjustable Ohlin forks) antiquated. Your GRiSO comes stock with a very underwhelming Sachs mono shock that simply doesn't work.

I'll take an underwhelming mono-shock over the dual shock any day, be it a fancy Swedish set or not. A mono-shock adds wheel travel without increasing seat height. Short travel results in an inferior ride. Mono-shocks can use softer springs due to longer travel and can be precision tuned for a better ride. Yes dual shocks give some people a nostalgic warm fuzzy, but I think it's time to embrace physics. With a nice mono-shock, the new Thruxton would be a complete package and look every bit as good. Why fight evolution on a bike like this?

Bullshit! With the same wheel/tyre combo, plus 120mm wheel travel dictates the mudguard and seat height. Change the suspension for more travel and you have to lift the mudguard/seat to stop contact.

Short travel results in an inferior ride.
I agree! That's why a lot of Guzzi's have such a poor ride, they claimed suspension travel in the factory specs of 120mm, on 2 different models I have owned has actually been less than 90mm.
And that was on both a twin shock model, and a CARC model.

Mono-shocks can use softer springs due to longer travel and can be precision tuned for a better ride.
Wrong on 2 accounts!
1. Mono shocks actually have much stiffer springs due to a). One spring has to do the job of two. b). More importantly, due to the ratio of the linkage system (and rising rate), the mono shock usually only has 30 - 40mm of travel, to control (factory claimed) 120mm of travel. Therefore the spring has to be much heavier. You only get to feel a softer ride due to the progressive action of the rising rate ratio of the linkage system.
2. High end mono shocks have hi-speed and lo-speed compression damping, rebound damping,  remote pre-load adjusters, nitrogen filled reservoir and adjustable length. These same features are available on high end twin shock set-ups. But the lack of adjustability and quality of the original Sachs mono shock on the GRiSO leaves a lot to be desired.

I have wheels, brakes and suspension on my Bellagio, that are worth way more than the bike itself, and now the ride is acceptable. Actually, it is fantastic! To get something close to 115mm of rear wheel travel, the mods raised my seat height (on a fucken monoshock) by 2.5" (60mm). If I transfer these bits over to a new GRiSO, and then fix/tune/set-up the rest of the bike as it should be, it would represent a AUD$40,000 investment.

Yeah, the Thruxton R might need a bit of work too, nice bike to look at but I wouldn't own one. Just sayin ...................................

I don't enjoy as muchos as i used to. The honda is still a shot but i'm a little bit borde with it besides its 25 years.I think the GRiSO is full of torque as well as the truxton but is very difficult here in Spain ride a test unit.
Muy English is not as good as i'd like and i didn't catch the part about the rear suspenssion. My Vfr mounts mono shock and it works well despiste its age.

The Thruxton R, she's a beautiful beast, and I must admit to lusting after her myself. But... and this is a big but, you really need to ride it before you take it home. And you must ride the GRiSO as well..
Here's the deal: Looks are subjective, feelings are personal. If it moves you in some way, or strikes a chord, then take it home. Guzzi or Triumph - It makes no difference as long as it puts a wad in your shorts... (the wad should be in the front of your shorts by the way)

Hi everyone!!! At last i madre muy decission and probably this week i'll be riding the new thruxton r. I know i'm loosing engine and power but i needed a bike from this century. I' ve had a '90 gs 500, a 91 Vfr and a 1979 shovelhead. I thinkbis the moment forma trying something different with all the electrónic stuff. Thank you all.
