Hi All,

I'm doing some winter cosmetics on my 2006 GRiSO 1100.
I'm changing the OE handlebars for a set of black 'domino' 8v ones which I'm told are a little narrower with more pull back.
Also fitting a set of black Pazzo levers with red adjusters and black bar ends.
(not decided yet on replacing the chrome mirrors with black ones or not)
But I am painting the following in satin matte black.....
1. The silver aluminum oil cooler grille
2.The 'fake chrome' Instrument cowl
3.Chrome headlight
4.The back of the OE fly screen (to darken the smoke tint).

Any suggestions on the best paint to use for the job?

Wildhenry.

The best paint would be one with catalyst for durability but in that case, you need access to compressed air and paint gun.
I run a body shop here in Orlando so it's easy for me to use catalyst single stage paint system... Urethane is the best and is usually a 3 to 1 or 4 to 1 mixing ratio with a quick drying time. So for example, 3 part of paint for 1 part of hardener (catalyst) etc...
Acrylic Enamel is OK but will take all day to dry (usually 8 to 1 ratio)
If you're gonna use rattle cans, get the best available in the UK market where you are.

Since you're painting over chrome pieces, the most important thing is your prep...
Make sure that you sand/scuff the chrome real good with a 180 grit sand paper at least (nothing finer) so the paint will bite and holds.
Use some adhesion promoter as well before applying paint though.
If it shows light scratches after that still, just repeat the process the next day with more coats of paint.
For the non chrome pieces, a simple scuffing pad will do. It's the equivalent of 320 sand paper...

Hey Pascal,
That's top info...thank you!
Sadly I do not have access to paint shop equipment so am stuck with the 'rattle can' method.
So I guess it's all in the prep unless I take the whole job to a pro.(I can't bare the thought of doing a shit job!!)
Cheers,
Wildhenry

No sweat Henry.
An honest pro in your area will not charge you much, especially if you buy the paint yourself...
