Question about fuses Empty
PostSubject: Question about fuses   Question about fuses Icon_minitime1Mon Aug 24, 2015 10:32 pm

Scenario:

Day: Sunny and clear
Me: Finally got time free from work and commitments.
GRiSO: Been sleeping away most of winter as rider is too much of a pussy to step into the cold.

I dress then take the GRiSO out and attempt to start the bike.....click...nothing. Hmm try again....click nothing! I know battery probably low, it has been labouring a bit of late and the long cold winter has probably seen it out Smile . Gauges shows 13 volts after charge try again....click nothing...hmm look at main fuse...good.

Take battery to shop they test it and he reckons while it is not great it is still showing signs of life Shocked , bugger that I have been talking about a new one in any case so
fork out the bucks bring it home charge and install it. Today, cool, clear and ok for short test ride, click.....nothing *&^*&%*^&$*&^$. Mad

Ok I can fix this, now think on the ever reliable old Duke what would you do...hmm check rest of the fuses.... ah, circuit B blown. Ok finally relent and look at manual what could this fuse B be, Tail light and passing light & ignition circuit. We have a winner!

Now not trying to sound sillier than i already do, is this a common fuse to blow and if so what should I be looking for to see what caused it? All advice to this Guzzi novice appreciated.

Multiple threads/posts here about starter relay bypass.
You don't bypass the relay, bypass the standard Guzzi circuitry and wire the battery direct to the starter relay with its own 20Amp fuse.
Standard wiring for Guzzi over the last 30 years has the power running up and down the bike 3 times before it reaches the starter ................. too much resistance.

Remove the orange/green wire from starter relay switch contact no. 3 and fit a new wire to the connector, which is then connected to the battery positive, via a 15A fuse.  Using a wire of 2.5mm2 cross section is recommended.

Roper usually advises using a 20Amp fuse in the standard fuse box to replace the 15Amp you just blew.

Hey my rather dull witted mind has just had a thought, does using the 20 amp fuse negatively impact any of the other items on the circuit?

Forgive my ignorance as I'm completely useless when it comes to wiring and such...but what happens to the orange/green wire once removed and replaced with the new one? Does it just sit dormant or does it have to be reconnected someplace?

Put a bit of heat-shrink ( or electrical tape ) over it, and ty-rap it out of the way. Surplus to requirement now Thumbs Up
