Hi Chaps, I ride a 2006 1100 which I love except for the transmission slop. A fuel map improved things but it's still annoying when you get that constant 'clunk' when disengaging the clutch, it's like there's a bit of play somewhere in the drivetrain. It also happens on a feathered throttle where it keeps snatching. I've never had a shaft drive bike before, so is this normal?

Make sure you have the absolute minimum free play in the throttle cables, this helps. There was also a softer bushing for the reaction arm that can be retrofitted to earlier models that helps mitigate the 'Clonk' but there will always be the driveline lash that needs to be taken up so there is noise from the gearbox and reactive drive.

My 1100 'quitened' down heaps after lubricating the swing arm bearings and the drive line splines .....

Thank you, at least I know mine's not falling apart! I'll get down to my local Guzzi mechanic and ask him to carry out that work, coz it's spoiling an otherwise great bike. Thanks again for the advise.

G'day Speed
Doing the swing arm lube is not rocket science, fairly easy to do yourself ...
There are good directions on this site for you to follow, just do a search ...
Have a great day
