There will be references to this in various other topics. For ease I am asking the question in a new one.

I did not not have a response about the cam-tappet replacement, so I have chased-up again with Piaggio UK Customer Service Manager and he has now replied to me that the factory will only have work done within the dealer network, no exceptions. I'm not sure that this is true. I was told the same first time round and then found out afterwards that parts were supplied directly to owner(s) in the South of Ireland. Have I read somewhere that this has been the case again more recently, with the roller kits?

What I am told by Piaggio: "we are still bound by the same rules regarding assistance only through the Dealer Network. I understand that there is literally no dealer in NI, but it is impossible to convince the Factory of a special circumstance. They are insistant that any assistance must only be offered through a Dealer."

1) I would really like to hear if anyone has had parts supplied directly?

2) Has anyone been able to communicate directly with moto Guzzi about this, rather than going through Piaggio?

Moto Guzzi == Piaggio.  Other way to tell it, there is no Moto Guzzi as company, only Piaggio.  A dealer is not that far, a lot of americans have to travel more to reach a dealer the you have to.

So where did you buy the bike? It's best when there is no dealer, to use one on uk mainland to get friends with.

Hi Paul, I know: it is difficult to see the logic in this. It is Piaggio who are making the distinction: Piaggio says the 'the Factory' (Moto Guzzi) does not allow them (Piaggio Customer Service) to make any exceptions. 'Piaggio' say that it is 'the Factory' who are insisting on this policy. Therefore, it may be better to try to deal directly with the Moto Guzzi structure – which is what Piaggio is saying to me.

I am not inclined to pay the expense of crating up my broken motorbike and shipping it to some place across the sea to another country, just to be inspected – and then hopefully worked on – when all this trouble, which has been a long heartache, is due to a fault that was in the bike from the factory. They sold the bike to me here, they took my money here, they should be able to supply a few parts to me here to at least repair some of the damage. I remember that they did do that in the South of Ireland before, maybe 2009/10 (although Piaggio told me it was not possible) – so that's why I am asking if anyone has had recent success – before I weigh up how much I will have to pay to Piaggio-Guzzi again...and maybe to a shipping company etc etc.

No Guzzi or Aprilia dealer in Ireland any more, North or South.  GS Motorcycles in Ballymena was the last one, but Piaggio tried their patience until they eventually had enough - now just sell Suzuki, Indian and Victory. Coleraine (where Belfast Guzzi bought his bike and who made a hash of the initial tappet warranty job) haven't been a Guzzi dealer for some time now.
