So.. After rollerising can we ride these like the other 99% of bikes out there? e.g. are short trips ok without fear of fecking another badly designed engine part? Getting mine back on the road next week after the op so hoping i can thrash her willy- nilly.

The roller top end seems impervious to any issues but short trips that don't get the engine up to operating temperature are bad for any engine.

Very timely question... Supposed to have mine back next week.

Cannot wait.

Wayne, I have tried to keep up with Mr Roper on quite a few occasions. He reckons he is not going that hard, so I would hate to see him flog a GRiSO. You don't need to baby a GRiSO, especially after rollerisation. What you do need to do, is make sure the oil is up to temperature to burn off any moisture in your engine. If you live in a cold clime (as you do), you just need to go for longer rides, play tunes through the gearbox and have most excellent fun in the process. Like I said earlier, go and thrash it for a long (good) time.

I find exceeding the speed limit in your driveway works a treat. Twisted Evil

Took my newly rollerized bike for a good ride today. Seems all good, though I was hearing a new noise that turned out to be dependent on rolling speed, not engine RPM. Once the road surface changed, I realized it was the Michelin RP4 tires. So I guess the flat tappet clatter had masked that sound completely! Same road I have been on may times.

I'll ride normally then... It'll be nice not having to worry what might be going on up top.

Started her up today with baited breath and not a little apprehension.. Fired first time and sounds much quieter, just a nice whirring sound. Noticed a bit of oil around the right head gasket so hoping that was from when it was loose, I'll keep my eye on it. Overall very happy.

I just rode the first 25 km's after rollerisation. Smooth idle and virtually silent valve mechanism!
The bike still has some issues opening up from 2000 rpm, but that's another story. Back to twiggling the map.

I'll put some 7 to 8 hundred km's on the odo and change both the oil and filter again to be sure.

Got mine back over the weekend as well... Rode it home, but have not had the chance to take it out again yet.

Agree that it seems quieter.

Got mine back about ~500 miles ago. Getting crap gas mileage now... why? Used to get high 30's no problem (even when doing a good bith of thrashing) now my 450 mile trip has an average fuel economy of 32 mpg. Why?

Did they tune it after it got rollers? You need the valves checked and then rechecked after a few hundred miles, plus TB balance. The cams are different.

Yeah got current map from guzzi. Haven't had time to check valves yet. Don't know how to check TB. Will check valves ASAP

Took her out today in the Welsh sunshine, gently on the way out, stopping frequently to check for any leaks. Gave it some beans on way back, mechanically way quieter-just a quiet tick and what i presume is the 'whickering' sound Pete mentioned.
Fuelling seems fine throughout the revs, dash reads 31.3 mpg, not great but i put that down to my open gpr.
I'll change the oil and filters soon, then just ride and enjoy it.
