the ideal temperature to cellar all wines (colour is ignored here) is 12-14 degrees C. If outside these temperatures some things might happen, namely too warm and the wine will age prematurely, too cold and it will go into hibernation and maybe never come out. We keep ours in a cupboard that seems to stay fairly constant and I haven't lost a wine yet. There are a few that are getting to the stage of "better drink it soon or it might be vinegar" so I need to make an effort. Damn shame!

But serving at 2 degrees is RONG!

I do not disagree whatever with anything you said. Maybe our fridges and yours are different temps. Some sort of Down Under v. Right Side Up thing. Wink

Seriously, we do not let it languish there for days or even hours, but do try to bring it down the the temps you note.

Yep. The consensus is no higher than 15C temperature when keeping wine, especially if is gonna sit for months.
Something that you're gonna consume only days after purchase mehhh...just put it in the fridge for 45 minutes before you drink it and you'll get the correct taste.
I'm far from a connoisseur but I noticed that a wine too cold taste funny, kinda like warm beer. Yikes!

I'm the only one in this house that drinks red, so it's big enough for moi. Holds 40 bottles.

Two Hands, Gnarly Dudes is the right one to try from their stable - top drop. But yes mark, you are right - can't go wrong with Maclaren Vale - just ask Mr Gout

Different strokes I guess. I found the Two Hands too sweet and cloying. We had to go through two bottles before I said 'enough of this swill' and they said 'you do better'. So I did.

They figured I was a bit too bogan 'cos I'd drunk two pints of White Rabbit to their half-pint of Stone & Wood.

City folk. Rolling Eyes

Thought it was good the first time, and went back for a second. I was right first time, and the second. Can't find a third. Must contact the vineyard for more.

Stumbled across this app, which can be helpful in finding a good one and avoiding a bad one, when you want to delve into the unknown at the market. You just take a picture of the label and the app shows you a rating and reviews. Quite possibly the most useful app ever made:

I lashed out this morning and bought a bottle of Yarra Yering Dry Red No 1 2013. It's a blend of cab sav, merlot, malbec and petit verdot. Cost me $95 so I'm hoping it's gonna be good. Have to wait for a special occasion though.

Pete let me know today that the G is nearly ready. I might have to take the Yarra Yering to his place to celebrate when I pick it up.

Perusing the shelves at the wine liquidator when McLaren Vale caught my eye. Delicious Shiraz that would be a bargain at twice the price.
