New owner from San Diego

Actually Encinitas, a beach town ~20 miles north of San Diego. I picked up a new '16 GRiSO a few days ago and was referred to this forum by a guy on apriliaforum where I'm a long time member.

Yes, 1981 - first year. someone asked me about it on another forum, so I'll just blatantly copy/paste it here as I hate typing.....

This GPZ is a time capsule. They were the first modern sport bike, and this one is a (now) super rare unmolested original. It is so rare because they were all used as club racers or mountain road warriors with the expected result: they were all thrown down the road in a shower of sparks many years ago.
This one's never been down, (I bought it from an elderly owner, it hadn't been ridden in a long time) The paint is perfect, original seat perfect, no dents or scrapes, mechanically excellent. All the original tools in the toolkit, owners manual still under the seat, even the little warning stickers that everyone takes off immediately are still there. It really belongs in a collection, but that being said I thought I was going to use it as an occasional rider, and to that end I went through the forks replacing all the internals with Race Tech parts, (gold valve emulators, springs, seals, bushings, etc) replaced the steering head bearings with tapered rollers and bought new piggyback shocks for it. I also went through the brakes (rebuilt master cylinders, etc), went through the carbs correctly, serviced the engine, and have new tires sitting in the garage for it.
I wouldn't be ashamed to show it in the rider class at a vintage meet just as it sits - though I would bolt the stock shocks back on first just to make it concours eligible.
I'm going to ask $6k, the few still in this condition are bringing that or more.

Welcome to the Ghetto. The GPZ was a nice bike back in the day. I love the old classic UJM's. Was/am a Yamaha guy, had an FJ600. but didnt like all the plastic. I still have my 79 Yamaha XS1100, and a 750 Triple that are both in immaculate condition, and a couple other bikes garaged away for post retirement. The GRiSO is the first bike I've owned in years that scratches that itch....

Interesting collection you have, will be interesting to see how you feel about the GRiSO over time. I had a buddy with an 04 Tuono, that thing had an interesting exhaust note with that offset crank. I chased him on my XS11 for 2-3 days through the smokey mountains of NC/TN and kept thinking his bike was missing.

I'm surprised they let you own that many Motorcycles in California (the land of enthusiast killjoy and regulations) ;-)

I've made a few changes to suit me.
Rozoma #MA006B bars (my favorite bend, more sweep back than the stockers)
Guzzi Tech tail tidy to remove the unwiped ass that was following the bike around
Set the sag and softened the ridiculously high compression damping settings by a ton
Fitted a Mistral stainless conical slipon - unfortunately the dealer I bought it from didn't order the db killer. It was WAY too loud and ran like absolute crap off the bottom. Db killer on the way, but until then I put the stock one back on.
Now the bike fits me, is better looking, and the suspension actually works. Much better!
