Y'know that idea about 1400-ising a GRiSO......

Well while I was in holiday mode I was having a look at prices of shit from the importer who's thrown in the towel.

Last time I looked 1400 barrel and piston kits, even to me, were ridiculously priced. Suddenly they are, well, a lot cheaper. So I've ordered a pair and all the other 'Over the counter' stuff and using all the other munt I have from my and Ralf's engines plan to build up a 1400, single spark, motor to slot into a GRiSO. There's been a lot of talk about this before but AFAIK nobody has actually done it without including rolling it in with many thousands of dollars of worthless, un-necessary shit. Being an old Suspender-twanger and corn-cob pipe splinterer I'm not looking for 'Stupendous', (And then lying about it! ) just easily applicable, worthwhile, 'Real World' performance increases, mainly in terms of torque!

It may all come to naught and be a complete clusterfuck but we won't know until we try it!

Well it will probably be going in yours so a map can be built for it. As I've said before my 1200 really has all the poke I'll ever need and with the way my arthritis is beginning to play up every time the temperature drops below 15*C even riding it may become problematic soon. For me it's the pleasure of building something that works, or finding out it won't, more than wanting it for myself.

Hi Pete, away in NZ at the moment, Tools have been made to press out the old and reinstall new bearings. I can shoot the lot back down in two weeks. I've been a slack arse I know

No hurry or worry Ron, the barrels and pistons won't be here for weeks. This won't be happening overnight anyway. Not by a long chalk.

It's interesting to note that BMW seem to have been able to get their old Hi-Cam engine to meet E4. Looks like the argument that *Our* motor not being able to do it may be frogshit. I wouldn't be surprised. My feeling is its just a further example of the push to turn Guzzi into the producer of narrow focus 'Cruiser' turds and 'Retro' fun-bikes that are all show and no go.

Hells no! This is a 1200 frankenbuilt into a 1400 with the faithful 5AM running the show.

Yup, single spark and the same old gear running the show. Will it work? Nobody knows, but there's only one way to find the out.

I will say now though that I won't be documenting everything I do in detail on a public forum for the simple reason that when I do that and produce something that works the idea, and all the hard work, gets snaffled by some other shyster and marketed by them. To be honest I'm a bit over it. I'll keep people abreast of what's happening but if it does work out and it turns out to be worthwhile I'll be marketing it in the conventional way. If, on the other hand, it turns into a complete clusterfuck and doesn't work I will happily share the why to save others the cost and heartbreak.

I think this has been a bolt on option with all the airheads for donkeys years.

Any ideas if something like this can be used in the old lump 1100? You know, assuming this works?

Defo bolt on for BMW airheads; mate of mine rebuilt an R45 from bit in a box; got bored with performance and bought R65 heads and pistons to upgrade it. That vintage was plug and play bits all over the models but I'm not sure MG was as germanic in their standardization :-)
