Hello.
I am not sure current owner but was thinking about a 2012 or newer.
What kind of life on average does a dry clutch last?
Are the guzzi's as reliable as the japs?
Any and all thoughts welcomed!

Anything built after the middle of 2012 has the roller top end and is fairly bulletproof.

As for clutch life? There was a bad run of clutches in 2012, they seem to have mainly gone in Stelvios but I'm wondering about the one in my 2012 motor I've recently slipped into my GRiSO as it sometimes makes a funny noise when hot. Generally though clutches are very long lived.

How long is a piece of string? Obviously a clutch is a wear part, it it is used in anger it will wear out quicker than if it's treated gently. Having said that I haven't had to replace a single plate clutch on any 8V yet because it had worn out. When I swapped the powerplants in my bike the original clutch had done 96,000km and was still working fine and while I'm usually very easy on both clutches and brakes I did like to wheelie it a bit for shit and giggles so it wasn't as if I'd always treated it with kid gloves.

I have several customers with bikes with similar distances travelled and no problems.

I used to own a Honda transverse Vtwin CX65E Eurosport so that is part of the reason I an thinking about a Guzzi.
Buying used, is it a big job to replace the clutch if the previous owner was hard on it?

That's a Stelvio but it's the same schtick.

I can probably turn a GRiSO clutch over in a day but I've got a lot of experience pulling engines I and out. Honda clutch was on the front was it not? GUzzi clutch is between engine and gearbox in common automotive fashion.

The only thing I don't like about the GRiSO is the flat paint. I grew up with shiny paint jobs Smile
Did they ever have glossy paint?

Yup, black, white and red. Thing is I believe they are all flat tappet bikes so caveat emptor.

A property mapped GRiSO has enough bottom end to pull down small buildings.

Even more amazing is that Roper can pop a wheelie. Shocked

cheers

That's cool! When I was a young lad I would wheelie the eurosport in 2nd gear. How do you find it in the twisties?

It can be hard work. The long wheelbase and large rake means heaps of understeer. Pulling the fork legs up through the triple clamps helps, but a longer rear shock does wonders. GRiSO is heavy, so a smooth line works best. Leave it in 3rd or 4th and let those big jugs haul you with on-rails handling.

2010. There's been no changes to frame or suspension. Newer models have a lighter clutch pull, changes to valve covers and sump. And rollers, of course.

Pete,

Are you trying to make my nightmares return?? Suspect  Every time I see this picture (or the very similar ones I have), I start to develop a nervous tic again.  Wink

Happy to report that my clutch has performed admirably for the entire season, this year.  Thanks again for all your help!

Cheers,
Shaun
