OK...
I was hot for the Rosso whatever they call that color so I waited for the opportunity to get one.
My 2013 was wrecked in Dec 2015 and I had to fight with the Ins. Cie for a year to not only make the bimbo that cut me off responsible but also to save the bike from being totaled. I won that long debate and got $6500 towards repair and only used $500 to fix the bike to its original condition.
I got $4200 for the trade and I bought the 2017 for $11.700, so with the Ins. money I got into a new GRiSO for $1500. That's the cool part.
The bad part is that the new bike won't rev past 3500rpm no matter what!!
Is there a valet code on these things or something? I'm aware that those bikes were made in 2015 (last year of production) so I know they've been siting until they get titled 2016 or 17.
Since I trailer-ed the 2013 to the dealer (expired registration) I trailer-ed the new bike as well but I never thought of taking it for a test ride!! lol
They cranked it up and brought it around from the back of the lot like it's done hundred of times
They uncrated this thing in the morning so I could get it today with one mile on it.
Anyway...as of now this thing is fugged. Will check spark plugs gap tomorrow and refresh gas but that's as far as I'll fiddle with it.
If this doesn't do it, I'm going back to the dealer on Monday and have them sort it out.
It feels almost like I'm on a rev limiter, but at $3500rpm...I tried to flog it, let it rev gradually but it just won't rev up!
Anyone experienced that?

No pre-delivery? Socks shoved in the airbox? Only one spark plug? Throttle body issue?

My favorite dealer in GA is no more but a local jap dealer took the Aprilia/Guzzi franchise 2 years ago, so I expect them to be clueless with the brand.
I'm a dumb ass for not test riding the thing but didn't expect to buy this bike today...
I was in a hurry to get rid of my 2013 that still had valve train issues due to the wreck.
I suspect a clogged injector at this point...

Just give it a proper PD yourself first. They are obviously clueless.

Valves, TB balance, TPS re-set etc.

Dying at 3,500 sounds like another issue though, doubt it will be injector related though. Check airbox for sure. Plugs might of been fouled by shitty gas left in the tank too.

That's what I'm thinking Pete...
Shitty gas related.
Will investigate air box as well. Snorkel already out...
I'll know in a few hours.
It's starving either from gas or air.

Err I might be stating the obvious or even missing something here but have you tried setting the rev limiter on the computer? My guess it's been set there for the running in period. Or maybe someone did it for a laugh at the factory.

Good thinking Sir^^^^^...
I did check that and it was set at 6500rpm, which I think is the norm...I bumped it to 8500 though. Laughing Laughing
I have a cool ride this coming weekend so I was looking forward to that but it looks like the 1100 will fill in instead...

pascal, the "Rev Limiter" is a shift light. The true rev limiter is a setting inside the map and is set to somewhere around 8400/8500 where the fuel delivery is cut if exceeded. It is extremely unlikely this has been changed. However, dumping the map and looking at the table value will prove this one way or the other (see TunerPro, GuzziDiag, IAW Reader and IAW Writer on how to do this).

Go back to the basics as listed above.

If I was a betting man, I would go for sparks - be it plugs or caps, but what would I know. I don't gamble, except on the road navigation with cages.

My 'last of the line'  model isn't a shift light but instead it is the actual ability to move the rev counter needle to set the maximum revs one desires. Is it possible that the OP's bike is stuck 'electronically' at 3.5 whilst still being able to move the rev needle with the handle bar controller.

Find this hard to believe but play with the dash if you wish.

Huh?

Hey Pascal, does it only rev to 3500 in neutral? It's got to be fuel or spark.

Shrug.

The dash rev limit definitely only affects the shift light and nothing else. Rev limit of the engine is a setting in the map and is between 7900 stock and 8500 by beetle and determines when fuel delivery is cut off.

Pascal, I had a new one do same thing, that's why you test ride it 10mi and sort.

What I did was reset TPS and self learn or parameters(what ever the other button is). That was it, bike ran fine later. I take it that the factory didn't finish doing this w/assembled.

Hey, bring it up if they can't sort it.

Ride Safe, Steve

Sorry guys for the delay here...
The problem actually occur at 3000rpm, not 3500. My bad. Doesn't change a thing though...

Beetle:  Doesn't rev past 3000 even in neutral. Not misfiring or anything like that, just shut off so that rules out spark no?
The bike acts like it's out of gas at that rpm of starving for air.

Steve: Thanks for the offer. I told them to get me another bike if those idiots are still stuck on failing by Saturday...told them AF1 racing has one ready to ship. lol
I didn't test ride it that day because I trailered the old one and we were getting to closing time. I also saw the mechanic ride the bike around the building so I didn't suspect a problem and I thought they took it for a spin earlier. You know, common thing to do on their part. lol
Never omitted to test ride/drive a new vehicle prior to signing the papers. First time I do, it bite me in the ass!

Few months back, I rode to Eurocycle in Tampa and try to trade my 2013 with them...I set everything on the phone with them first, including the Dollar numbers etc... When I arrived there, the new bike had a nasty gash on the tank about 4 inches long where the paint was coming off. They made sure to not mention that over the phone with me, then they changed the deal on the trade on top of everything! Gee, I don't think that there is a dealer worth fuckle in Florida! No wonder people get turned off from the brand...

Ah OK. I haven't even ridden mine yet so took it for granted that the onboard computer control actually meant what it said.  I didn't realise it was just to set the shift light. Mine was a good theory though Wink

Aside from basic tuning (maps, TPS, Balance, valve clearances etc) other Grisos have got 'stuck' at around 6,000 rpm when the cam timing is 1 tooth out.  Could it be an 'out the factory' cam timing alignment issue?....not sure how it could even start and run if it's way out but just saying as it's fairly easy & zero cost to check and discount early on (after all the basics)

Nah. Cranks right up and and bleeps fine. It just won't rev up...
I think Steve is right. The factory didn't finish the job and relied on dealers to close the set up. Big mistake obviously.
I though that they fired up every bikes at Mandelo prior to shipping...so much for that theory. lol

Not revving past 6000 rpm was the major issue with cams out one tooth - they still start fine and from what was posted ran fine up to the rev limit & could ride around OK below the limit.......just wondering if the same issue could drive it down to 3000 rpm limit
