Thoughts on a Tenni for Sale? Empty
PostSubject: Thoughts on a Tenni for Sale?   Thoughts on a Tenni for Sale? Icon_minitime1Sun Jun 25, 2017 5:38 pm

Friend of mine saw this:

Tenni Ad

He's asked the seller if rollerized; no response yet.

I think that price is high even if rollerized, but even though not red  Wink, it is a desirable bike, so likely no bath down the road.

And, even if flatties — as is not addressed — if service record OK, then suppose Piaggio will pay for parts and interested friend should ask for c.$1K off list price.

As seller did not disclose, sure puts me in a suspicious mode, though.

Any comments I can pass along to my friend?

Thanks.

Bill

It's very low mileage, so one would expect the flatties to have minimal damage, if any. Lack of disclosure may mean ignorance of the issue, or that current owner doesn't care. Regardless, he may need to accept that negotiation is required to offset any possible cost of rollerization. The price is at the high end, and Tenni GRiSO's aren't that rare. Yet.

If you can phone up and get the engine # Bill we can at least guess if its a roller or flattie. That and month of manufacture.

2nd the suggestion on getting the engine number. Mine was a June 2012 build and is a factory roller (engine #A8-013542). If the one in the ad is higher you may be good to go.

Although it is low mileage, mine was toast at 2,230 miles, new crank and cases were needed when it was rollerised at that mileage.

Thanks to all.

If seller hasn't responded to question about roller status, doubt he'll come back with engine # and DOM.

But, heck, to give benefit of doubt, might not know what question meant! Rolling Eyes

Anyway, will check on that.

They're not that rare or at least rare enough.  My first local bike night and guess what turns in right in front of me.  I made sure I parked right beside him Smile

Bill - there's another GRiSO in the Philly area that looks like a better deal HERE

If you (edit: meant he) really want a Tenni maybe we should talk - my 2012 roller is great but my bad back has me thinking about a V7

Meanwhile here in California where prices are high:

2015 Moto guzzi GRiSO - $5500

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

At $8000 that's a lot of Green backs for a Green bike

Hi John.

Engine number change over points as published by factory are less than reliable but this is what they say are the engine numbers for models.

Stelvio- Motor#AC12596  Build Date  12 March 2012
GRiSO  - Motor#A813524   Build Date 12 April 2012
Norge - Motor#AA12214   Build Date 18 April 2012

That doesn't compute with your quoted engine # but guessing that the last four numbers are what should be being looked at if that is the case it's a flattie.

Thanks, Pete. I initially stuck an extra 3 in there. Looks like it's probably a flattie. :-(

John, if it's low mileage and has a FSH there's really no need to be put off as Piaggio should supply a kit when the damage is 'Discovered'. Yes you'd have to pay for installation but if it's an A or B kit bike that doesn't take long as the heads don't need to come off so factor that into the purchase price.

If it has no service history? Well a B kit is $713 and an A kit is for some inexplicable reason $931 from Teo so factor that into the purchase price. Why the price difference when the kits are pretty much identical I have no idea? I have never expected logic from Guzzi's pricing department!

Moot point as listing has been removed, possibly so owner can investigate/describe bike status and condition more accurately(??) He told me he was unaware of the entire tappet issue prior to posting for sale.  I'll choose to believe that.

Not everyone uses the Internet as a diagnostic tool and as we are all aware 90% of what is posted on the net is either bullshit or porn!

Unfortunately the flat tappet issue is neither but the vast majority of shops either don't know about it or will try and claim it's an isolated problem that only occurs rarely. The fact that none of these numpties ever check a bike unless it comes in making a noise like a busted grain header doesn't seem to be enough to actually pull their heads out of their arses and just start checking them before they go terminally udders skywards! It's a fifteen minute job FFS! Why wouldn't you do it? As I've said before I now insist on inspecting any flattie that comes into my shop. If the owner says no my tools stay in the box and he can take his half broken POS elsewhere. Since instigating this policy I've seen a 100% attrition rate.

"The prosecution rests y'r honour!"
