Letting the GRiSO Sit? Empty
PostSubject: Letting the GRiSO Sit?   Letting the GRiSO Sit? Icon_minitime1Mon Oct 31, 2016 4:51 pm

Hey all,

I've got a quick question I'm hoping you all can provide some insight on. My '16 GRiSO is currently sitting in my garage with a full tank of fuel (with Ethanol) and due to recent arm surgeries it's going to continue sitting there for at least 4 months while I heal up, should I be worried about the ethanol gunking things up or deforming the tank?

Thanks!

Caleb

Caleb,

No need to fret.

I'll be visiting grandkids in Edmonds for 10 days in December.  So, I'll be happy to be a hooligan ... erm ... I mean ride it responsibly and allay your fears.  Suspect some others even nearer will be pleased to do the same.  cheers

Seriously, I am sure the smart guys -- as opposed to smartass ones like me -- will chime in soon, but four months is pretty typical "hangar time" for many of us with four real seasons instead of the all-year Seattle Rain Festival. Wink

Sounds as if you have done what you need to do WRT fuel, but I am considering pulling, rinsing, and draining mine lest you "grow" as my Norge's has.

Good luck with recovering from your surgeries!

Bill

4 months isn't that bad, but to top it off with and add fuel stabilizer wouldnt hurt anything. I like to use Seafoam at double recommended strength, or the Marine (blue) Stabil. How many miles on oil? if high mileage, the acids and other contaminates 'could' be a problem. If under 1-2K I wouldn't worry about it. If you are worried about tire pressure, I always pressurize up to 50-60lbs when letting bikes sit to help avoid flat spots. At a minimum, I'd stabilize and top off the fuel.

I'll be deploying again in FEB/MAR (7 months) so will wait till then for fresh oil, covers, stabilized fuel, and over pressured tires for my Bikes and the 912.

I have been using an enzyme stabilizing agent in my power equipment with very good results.
It was recommended to me by my local small engine repair man. He maintains that stabil is an inferior product that does not work!

The computer drains the battery so put it on a charger. I typically go a month (or three weeks, which ever gets my memory jogged) and put a real 10amp charger on it (charge at 2 amps). I've had less than stellar results depending upon a trickle charger - but that is an option too. If you make sure the charge is topped off first with a "real" charger.

Ironic I'm seeing this posting today. We have enjoyed an extended riding season here in Denver, Colorado but rain/snow is finally forecasted for Thursday, 17 November. I figured it was about time to put some Stabil in the tank with a fresh tank of gas. I rode my GRiSO about 30 miles today to distribute the fuel stabilizer. I keep the bike on a Battery Tender during the downtime. I figure that in this manner my GRiSO will be good to go in the event there are any windows this winter for riding and, if not, come the spring I'll be good to go. If you have the chance to ride this winter just be safe!
