Well, I've have put about 2000 miles on my new to me '13 GRiSO in the last 2 months. Yesterday, I was in a rural town here in New Hampshire and filled her up with premium fuel at a mom and pop no name gas station and jumped right on the highway. Well, when I got back in the city 8 miles later she was sputtering and idling all over the place. I immediately suspected the fuel as half the pumps were out of service and the premium fuel at this gas station probably is wicked old as no one buys it. I drained the tank and filled up with Shell V power. She seems to be running normal now, is there a chance all this caused permanent damage especially if it was some water? She ran fine on the highway but definitely had problems idling until I put the new gas in.

Thank you

What sort of permanent damage do you think could have occurred? I say, ride on!

Someone should be along later with better advice, but if you suspect water, I'd be tempted to add some metho in the tank (to combine with the water) & run the tank as dry as you can.

No need to add metho, yank fuel, almost universally, already has ethanol in which will perform exactly the same hygroscopic function.

Just run a slosh of injector cleaner through a tank full of juice and call it good. It's highly unlikely it will of done any permanent harm. Not even the fuel at the godawful Emdale Roadhouse managed to kill our Grisos on the last group run we took across NSW! They'll take more than a tank of shitty gas to kill!

Ok cool thanks, I had just read somewhere it ruins the injectors, hopefully caught it early enough!

According to *Experts* everything ruins injectors. Problem is that in twenty odd years of working on FI Guzzis I've only ever had to replace injectors that were physically broken, as in the electrical fitting had been broken off!

Yes at very high mileages I might consider sending them off for a service and overhaul but I haven't had to yet and checking the spray pattern on my bikes which are both over 100,000km and the ones on the 200,000km Sport we overhauled earlier in the year they were all happy as Larry!

Water ruins injectors? Poppycock!

How to ruin an injector with water:

1. Hit it with a hammer and soak in water overnight.
2. Place in boiling water for several hours.
3. Throw it into the briny sea.

Very Happy

Thanks for the input, I have been through through two tanks of fuel and its running much better. When I pulling the clutch however the rpm goes up and seems to hunt around a little. I don't remember that prior to getting the bad gas. If I shift into neutral and release the clutch she goes right down to 1,100 rpm and stays there. not sure if that is normal.

Yup, perfectly normal. It's a *Feature* of the 8V-03 map your bike has, nobody quite knows why it was incorporated but it was.

If you have recently widened the span on your clutch lever this might be a contributory factor to your suddenly noticing it. I have my span set fairly close due to my tiny, weird, Trump-like hands and in that position the pull doesn't take the lever far enough to operate the microswitch. It doesn't effect the clutch action but does mean the bike won't start in gear if I stall it but if I widen the span a click or two I can not only start the bike in gear but I get the idle-rise as well. Yes, it's a bit vexing but utterly harmless!

Ha Trump like hands that's a good one! Well put two more tanks of fuel through the pig today, she runs great but she definitely idles up almost to 2k rpms when she is really warm in the city , in gear, with the clutch pulled in. As soon as I put her in neutral, she drops right back down to 1200 rpm or so like clock work. So all this sounds ok I suppose. Thanks for the input.
