| I've got this roller conversion kit coming for my bike. I was thinking I'd keep it on the shelf in case a customer's bike went tits but thinking about it if I stick it in mine I might be able to quieten the old girl down a bit. Not only that it will give me an opportunity to see what sort of wear and tear there is on the valves etc. after 70 plus thousand Km. It won't be immediately as I'm still reasonably busy but it always goes quiet in winter but I was wondering if people would be interested in a photo-essay on the whole procedure? Usually I'd post this sort of thing up on WG but if I do that all the Suspender twangers will come boiling out of the woodwork saying how much better their worn out Eldos and poorly engineered 'Cafe' bikes are than the 8V and how terrible it is that the 8V was ever built! I really don't want to get in trouble with the mods when I tell some C*** exactly what I think so here would seem like a more sensible option. Pete | |

| Well, I for one would love to see it for academic sake... I'm already equipped with a rollered tappet A8, but I think it would be an invaluable resource for other A5/A8 GRiSO owners contemplating the roller conversion.
I know it is a lot of work to document the whole process Pete, but I am certain it would be appreciated here.

| The A and B kit are in the reach of most who can wrench a bit hand have some understanding, the kit c is more challenging. With the Stelvio you can't take heads of because of the bolt that sticks out of the head for the frame fixing. So or have to take engine of, or take stud bolts out, or heat the head so much you get the things out. Maybe the frame rails are different positioned at the GRiSO so you have no problem with that. And the ones that have no tools to get the valves out should take the heads to a shop that does. | |

| I say let the man document his work. Main reason is that the kit C is more involved... I replaced my busted tappet on my 09 about a month before wrecking it and it was a piece of cake really. My beloved dealer sent me a used cam and matching tappets (at no charge) because I didn't want to wait for one thing, and I didn't want to go with the stock set up for another as I was waiting for the kit C to come out. I was gonna order a set of new studs though, because it would have been 3 times that they'd been "stress relaxed" on that left side. They can stretch so many times upon torquing... | |

| Yes please Pete! I may have to do this at some stage, and even if not I'm sure I'd learn a lot about how the top end comes apart / goes together from such a report.
Eagerly awaited! |

| I am curious My Stella is an AC prefix which (I am told ) is the most straight forward to change to roller, oddly it looks like my roller GRiSO castings just with flats stuck in, I am not expecting any reason to do this but would like to see it...I am a little concerned with the chain tensioner noise on the left side at start up though it is getting louder longer at the cold start... the valves quit changing at all at about 6,000mi, still checking at 2500 intervals though | |

| Well my kit arrived. This is the 'C' kit for early A5 motors. It requires the removal of the heads to shim the valve springs which is a bore. Its also a sort of weird hybrid as it contains rocker carriers/camboxes that are machined so you can use the early rocker covers which is a bore. I would of though it would of been a lot simpler to just replace the rocker carriers and covers to keep parts selection easy. New cambox. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The 'Pads' that go into the rockers to cope with their radial movement. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]They fit on the roller tappets like so. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Scrappy pic of the rollers, sorry, I'm not going to take the cambox apart, you need a special tool to reassemble it, I don't have one yet. | Good-o. Did you take your kit to bits to examine them? The only info I have on the system is that in the Cali14 manual which, like most manuals, is a bit thin on info from memory, I haven't looked recently. I only have one customer with a Cali 14.

| No I didn't, but someone I know did, he took it apart to examine all things, bad experience in the past:-) He found small aluminium parts in the oil bores... He also let some parts coat with DLC [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |
