| Hi all - I was rear-ended by a hulking Land Cruiser with bull-bars on Friday. Managed to keep her upright but there is damage to the rear. Number plate holder is bent under the rear tail, indicators missing, and my Termignoni has a slight dent towards the front. Is there anything else I should be concerned with (shaft alignment, frame damage etc.) that I should ask the assessors to pay attention to?
Its 1200 8V model 2009.
Thanks

| Arse!
Any damage to the rear light or Tupperware? If so, I'd be concerned about the rear subframe.

| And be particularly cautious about the swingarm.
I assume your engine is rollerised?

I assume your engine is rollerised? Pass. Its been on the list to check. What impact would rear damage have on this?

Rear light is intact but Alarm sensor directly below is farked, as are the indicators. Plate holder is completely obliterated.

| The swingarm is a very lightweight alloy casting. It's designed to take shock/stress in one plane only. A significant blow either directly from the back or at any angle from the side would worry me to the point of getting it crack tested at the very least. | |

| No clue how all the insurance bureaucracy works down that way, but is the perp going to foot the bill?
Oh, and condolences. It's painful how low "totaling" can be.

| That sort of impact can bend frames around the swingarm pivot point, seen it many times. Check wheel alignment.

| *Update*. Bike got taken away. Initial assessment places it at beyond economical repair. So now I'm waiting on what the book value is for payout. | |

| **Update** The third party has deemed the bike beyond economical repair and offered a pay-out. I have two options: 1) take the full payout 2) £1300 less than the total payout and i keep the bike.
No assessment has been done to the frame or alignment etc so I don't know the extent of the damage in that respect. Do I buy the bike back and hope damage isn't bad if any, fix up the aesthetic damage and go through the hassle of insuring it as a Category N write off? Take the full payout assuming that there could be significant damage to the shaft, alignment and possible frame damage? Buy the bike and sell as salvage or part out on ebay? This is a 09 GRiSO 1200 with 12k on the clock.

| Taking into consideration the number of damage uncertainties --> take the full payout and buy another one. | |

| I managed to keep it upright and ride it home. what's the likelyhood of there being extensive damage to wheel, sub-frame, shaft etc i.e. how solid are these things built? | |

Out of interest, how much is the roller fix (including parts)?

| Including parts? Unless you do it yourself? Add the equivalent of $2,200US in Rand. If your shop is ignorant of the problem, poorly educated on Guzzi in general, incompetent or just venal expect it to cost far more and be done badly. | |

| Sorry to hear about this. Get your spine checked as well. That impact could have done damage you haven’t felt yet. I know all too well about this scenario. | |
